| There is $2000 dealer cash on 2004 I35's this month through Infiniti. Just thought I'd drop a wuick note here in case anyone is considering one. | |
| My husband and I are getting ready to buy a 2004 I35 in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area within the next few weeks. The dealer is supposed to send me quotes in the next few days and hopefully I can get a good deal like some of the rest of you. I'm curious though whether I should wait until the 2005's come out so I can get a better deal. Does anyone know when they will be out, if they even going to be making a 2005 I35 or if it will have a different body style? I can't seem to find any info on this and want to get the best deal possible since I'm buying this car using money that I just inherited following my mother's death. Thanks to all! | |
It is my understanding that the 2004 I35 is done at the end of this 2004 model year. You could verify this with your auto dealer. For your information I believe there is a $2000 manufacturer-to-dealer incentive. Please keep in mind that this is not exactly the same as a manufacturer rebate. I have considered this vehicle also but I have found some negatives. The ride is not up to par with some other good mid-sized vehicles like the Camry, and ES330, especially on less-than-perfect roads. Insurance for some reason is higher (25%) on this vehicle than the others. The engine has more horsepower than others and that could explain the higher cost of insurance. Gas mileage also is not the best because of the size of the engine. Please check with your insurance agent to see if the I35 is higher than the Camry or ES330. In many respects the I35 is a great car. Dependability has been outstanding according to "Consumer Reports". I hope this helps.

I just looked at an Infiniti I35 with an MSRP of $32,030. The "invoice" price for this vehicle is $29,015. The dealer offered to sell the car to me for $29,500. After reviewing Consumer Reports and Edmunds, I've determined there is a dealer holdback of $860 on this car plus $2,000 marketing support. So in actuality the dealer wholesale price for this car is $26,155. I believe a 3% profit over wholesale invoice is fair. Therefore, I'm considering a counteroffer of $26,939. Do you think this is fair?

And not a penny more as the I35 is in it's last model year, being replaced with the 2005 M35 (RWD V-6) and M45 (RWD V-8). It's a pretty strong bargain (imo) at that price, especially conpared to what else is available in the mid size, entry level luxury vehicles. Your resale value will be lower as it is the last model year for that model but if you plan on driving it for a few years, it shouldn't hurt you too much financially (compared to any other new car purchase). Now if your used to getting a new car every three years or so, you may want to consider another make/model or wait a while longer for the M35.

I think your calculation of the offer price is fair (but thenI'm not an Infiniti sales person). IMO, the Avalon is no where near the vehicle that the I35 is even though it is a Toyota. It was a really smooth highway cruiser but around town felt just ponderous in handling and general manuevering. I shopped carefully about a year and a half ago for a new vehicle that was at least mid-size and could tow 2,000 lbs. Drove just about everything that could tow 2,000 lbs or better including the Avalon. I ended up buying a Nissan Murano. Crossover utility size, higher seating position and proven engine in the 3.5 liter powerplant. I still like the I35 and am very interested in buying a M35-M45 when they come out if they can keep the quality and performance as high as they have on the G35 and FX models. |

| Thanks. I'm trying to make a reasonable offer. I've noticed discrepancies in the base price of this model. Some sites say $28,150 (i.e., Edmunds.com, carsdirect.com, cars.com). Others say $27,713 (kbb.com, intellichoice.com, nadaguides.com, consumerguide.com, automobiles.com). Some websites have the base invoice as low as $26,360. It's confusing as I want to work with the right number and not submit an offer based on out-of-date figures. | |
