Replying to: nescosmo (Jul 17, 2006 3:50 pm) In all cases, the problem was traced to the “Turbo Resonator”, which is nothing more than a small muffler that attaches to the output side of the turbocharger, prior to the intercooler. This stupid little part, which lives in a high temperature environment, and has to contain the boost pressure produced by the turbo, is made of PLASTIC!!! It has a two piece body which is bonded together with an adhesive. It seems that the current batch of “Turbo Resonators” were not bonded together well enough to survive in the environment they are installed in. When the seal at the seam fails, boost pressure is lost, and the computer thinks that a catastrophic turbo failure has occurred; …….and it drops you into a “Limp Home Mode”, as it’s program demands. The insidious part of the failure is that since it is a seam that is leaking, it can be leaking badly enough to make the computer think that there has been a catastrophic turbo failure, and still not be visually obvious when the engine is off. Chrysler-Daimler knows about this problem, but is taking NO action: …….They are not even sending out service bulletins to their dealers on this issue. They are, instead, trying to convince each user that they have experienced a “One-in-a-Million” failure. This problem, and more specifically the way they are handling it, is going to cost them! ……..It has already resulted in my college deciding to purchase 25 Ford vans instead of Sprinters. (As was originally planned.)

Or hit the Google site and key this in ,How does a Turbo work, Read it carefully, Oil and lubricants. DCX will not send out any bulletin apart from the warnings they all ready have sent to the dealers, it's a fuel related Issue not a DCX mechanical failure, the problem your having is exclusive to the USA only. Unfortunatly Plastic and over heating is not a good factor I admit there should be a metal impeller fan which can be sourced as an aftermarket item in The US and Europe So far there has been over one hundred failures on this part, But I emphasize it's been fuel or owner operator not servicing or complying to the correct fuel and oil

I AM A SPRINTER TECHNICIAN FROM SC, JUST BROWSING THROUGH SOME OF THE MESSAGES AND THOUGHT I WOULD LEAVE SOME INFO. ENGINE TAKES 9.5QTS OF 10W30 OR 15W40 SYNTHETIC OIL-REMEMBER TO REMOVE THE OIL FILTER FIRST BECAUSE ABOUT A 1/2 QUART WILL DRAIN INTO THE CRANKCASE WHEN THE OIL FILTER IS LOOSENED. THE ASSYST COMPUTER RESETS IN 10K MILE INTERVALS FROM WHEREVER THE ODOMETER IS- TO RESET ASSYST: TURN KEY TO RUN POSITION, PRESS (MI) BUTTON (TWICE) UNTIL THE SERVICE MILAGE IS SHOWN, THEN THE NEXT STEP MUST BE PERFORMED WITHIN 5 SECONDS- TURN KEY TO OFF POSITION, PRESS AND HOLD (MI) WHILE TURNING KEY TO RUN POSITION-HOLD FOR TEN SECONDS OR UNTIL IT RESETS. NOTE: THE DIPSTICK WILL ALWAYS READ LOW UNLESS THE ENGINE IS HOT- EMAIL ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS:SRT4GUIDICE |

I wrote Dodge for 07 info and I've pasted their reply. I'm also interested to know if Dodge will make a Sprinter passenger model that's geared toward families: DVD, Stereo/CD, GPS, Rear camera, nice seats (possible leather), etc... Johnny Reply follows: We are pleased to read of your interest in the 2007 Dodge Sprinter. This vehicle is expected to arrive in dealerships in the fall of 2006. At this time, DaimlerChrysler has not officially announced the pricing and full product specifications for the 2007 Dodge Sprinter models. More information should become available to us as well as being posted on the Dodge website closer to the official release date of the 2007 models. We encourage you to stay in contact with Dodge.com and your local Dodge dealership as further information becomes available. |

Replying to: punter1 (Jul 26, 2006 10:01 am) The process is: they build them in Germany, partially disassemble them, ship them to the U.S., reassemble them. They get around some tarifs and taxes that way because they are importing parts, not vehicles. |
