You probably would not be able to import on your own as what you buy in Europe most likely does not meet US standards for safety, emissions, lighting, et al.

Not worth the trouble. New Sprinter needs Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel which will not be at the pumps until September 1 and you probably want to wait a bit after that.

The Sprinter should be of high enough standards for almost everything to meet US standards except for... HEADLIGHTS!!!

The US standards for headlights includes a requirement for much more side-lighting with the headlights because traffic and street signs in the US are not lighted as they are in most of Europe.

Because of this difference, the HID (high intensity discharge) healights work great in Europe (narrow beam). They do not work out too well for on-coming traffic in the USA, where the increased (required) scatter is too bright when you are driving toward them.

And as such, that alone is enough to prevent you from importing one on your own before DCX is ready to sell them in the US.

Even after they begin importing them, you won't be able to buy a US spec unit in Europe - they don't sell US spec units there.

I just replace the air filter and I have 8600 miles it was very bad I notice that the filter had a foam glue in to the front of the filter and the replacement did not, is there two different filters? or the replacement is different. also I will like to know if there are synthetic oil filters that are better that the paper filter that I buy at autoZone.I know that syn filters do better that 8 micron, Paper do only 20 micron or worst. do you guys know something better.

I looked up filters for the K&N brand and they have one. Go to their site and look it up. Pricey, but K&N has a good reputation. Haven't bouught one yet, but will when time to change mine out. Don't remember the part #. Hope this helps. Mine is 2004 long/high.

Oils anin't Oils and neither are the Filters by altered3

mobil fromula M 5W-40 For Diesel with (paticle filter) complies to US 229-5 229.51 particle emissiions you need at least a 3 to 5 mircron filter to trap particle contamination for full effect, lesser micron filters just blow the rubbish straight through its as simple as that
Oils anit oils old castrol Add, you could try Mobil1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 US Standards for 5/5/06
Fuel is just as important High quality Low sulphur not Ultra low never ever use this fuel for current Sprinters, unless you want a burnt out valve or burnt Piston crowns and blown out engine seals Guaranteed.Highly corrosive.
The oil requirment for the new 2007 Sprinter for Blutec systems US Standards: are Blutec Mobil Delavac XHPLE extra 10/40=228.51 for paticle emissions The oils do not quite make the standard for LA,PL, and NY etc but the new Blutec ststem does cancell out the particle emissions at the end of the exhaust, this is the most advanced revolutionary technology for cleaner diesels in the world today, thats desinged with the new engines from Damiler Benz to run on bio fuels all types of poorer quality type fuels,as to the high rate effective burn within the engine itself, However US manufactures such as DCX are still devoloping the sun Diesel concept for local production.
its any bodys guess as to which system ends up being used in the US ploitics
Note: No Sprinters in Australia change filters before the 25 thousand Kilometer mark in most cases with the exception of high density traffic zones such as Sydney and Melbourne the original filters show little contamination at all , one could say they are good for a few more thousand KS' before a change is required, again its because our fuels are cleaner not in particle requirments to 115p/pm Standard Diesel not low sulphur which is lower, as per say, but in the fuel itself, delivered to the pumps! There is little or no contamination in the fuel of impure products, the same with engine oil, so the Sprinters do not have the problems you guys are having, then again look at BP in the US and ask yourself whats coming out at the pump that should not be in the fuel?

Alterd....Where are we going to find 3 to 5 micron filters in the US. no body proclaim the micron factor, unless the filter is an off brand name. -We buy what they sell-, also the fuel is on the same train; here in the US the ULSD is on and that is the only fuel wi will have (15ppm) about the oil I buy dino oil (delo 400)or Rotella, all are 15w--40. Let me know where I can buy 3 to 5 micron filters for the Sprinter.

Without getting into the politics of it all in the USA This dam problem your having is because Of DCX ploicy's in the US
Mercedes sell the new filters at 3 micron, but need a few days to get back to you on this, I'll pull out a filter and see if there is a way to make one as you can by filters in the USA for one micron filter as a wrap, so I need to see if it can be modified as geting them from Germany will be a nightmare, Have you asked about the KH filters as to what the filters have been set at? You could also log into mbcanada.com there are some great threads with guys that can help you find local distributors.
apart from that I will reply within 48 hours.
PS Does the delo 400 meet the same requirements as Mobil oil the one for the Mercedes /Dodge Diesel oil with the particle filter?
Have a great Day.

Altered,

From looking at the MBSprinter website, it looks like the new model will we more family friendly (Insulation, DVD, GPS, Stereo, etc..) Do you have any insight? I would seriously consider the van over the traditional minivans that are so popular here in the States. By the way, I wrote Dodge requesting info on the 07's and I've pasted their response. Thanks! Johnny
