I believe Certified Pre Owned (CPO) means that everything is covered as in the original factory warranty except for the radio and other wearable parts, such as tires, wipers, battery, etc. My CPO 2003 9-3 has benefited from this quite a bit.

Just read your post (#3131) on SAAB dealers. I now exactly the dealers your are speaking of in Northern IN and agree 100%. Had service done at both. The 1 mechanic dealer use to be better until it changed hands a few years ago. My wife had a '86 900 purchased new that we drove over 200k miles. Our '03 93 has 36k miles on it but I will have to say that the '86 had fewer problems per mile. The problems had been minor and resolved quickly but currently the '03 is sometimes displaying an airbag malfunction message when the outside temperature is over 72 deg. Never indicates the error on cool mornings. This week it is fine so I will wait until is shows up more consistently. Anyone else have this problem?

Saab dealer and Saab reliability

I'm looking at buying my first Saab, a 2007 9-3 sedan and have a couple of questions.
My local Saab dealer is an Audi/Volkswagen/Saab/Suzuki dealer. The showroom has room for an Audi, Volkswagen, and Suzuki, but no Saab. They have one used Saab for sale. If this dealer drops Saab, driving to another dealer isn't an option, 150+ miles. So my question, since Saab is part of GM, can a Saab be serviced at one of the other GM dealers? I plan on asking the dealer this question but wanted an answer before I did that.
My other question, should I be sweating bullets over Saab reliability? I own an 04 VW Jetta and an 06 VW Touareg so I obviously like to live life on the edge. I really like this car but I am going to have to do some fast talking to convince my wife this is the car for her and I want a reasonable chance of being right.

Even if another GM Dealer will work on a Saab, that is the last person you want to touch it. I would be very surprised if there are any common parts at all.
Do not worry about reliability. My wife has a 2005 9-3 Convertible with over 30,000 miles and we have had no maintenace or warranty issues at all. Also, the maintenance provided by Saab is little more than 2 oil changes, at 15k and 30k miles. If the Saab dealer closes, find an independent, their service people have to work somewhere, and have the oil changed every 5000 miles. Use synthetics for everything.

Regular vs Premium gasoline

We are looking at a 2005 Saab 9.3. Everything I read says to use Premium gasoline but the dealer says it is OK to use Regular Unleaded gas. What do you use?

The handbook says use 90, which few gas stations provide. However, when its not available I fill up with premium once every 4 tanks and use regular the rest of the time without any problems (2003 Saab 93).

An often asked question for which the answers you will receive are many and varied.Here is the one that I feel is correct.By the way,I both sold and owned Saabs for the last 13 years.The Saab Trionic engine management system is programmed to produce optimum engine performance when premium grade(92 octane or better)fuel is used.If you used a lesser grade the computer would downgrade the engine performance to guard against pre-ignition.Pre-ignition is that "chain rattling" sound the engine makes when under stress.This protective measure will rob your engine of up to as much as 10 to 15 pct.of its normal Horse power output.I urge people to "do the math"! 12,000 miles per year at an overall average of 25 M.P.G. is app.500 gallons consumed per year.If the difference between mid-grade and premium is 15 cents a gallon you save a whopping $75.00 per year! I would rather know that I'm getting all the "ponies" I paid for,thank you!
