Bought a 2001 9-3 by canadaguy

I just recently bought a used 2001 9-3. Thus far I am happy with it as I was considering a Vw rabbit or a honda civic as a commuter car. I have about 139300 km on the car.

I was wondering if any 2001 owners have a maintanence schedule link or something as I have do not have one. it a little late for it but I'd appreciate comments from previous owners of the 2001 9-3. Thanks

My insurance company (Progressive) provides a service schedule for both my cars on their website, derived from Edmunds. Try www.edmunds.com, then Tips and Advice, then Maintenance Guide. Plug in your car details, and you will have very detailed schedules and charges. The beauty of this is that you can eliminate a whole swath of unnecessary checks, and just order the specific service items you really need.

Unfortunately the site is geared to American consumers. If in fact you are in Canada, the charges will not apply.

Tires by saab7802

Hi there. What are good replacement tires for a 9-3? I'm close to 35k miles on my Pirellis. They're cupped now unfortunatley. Even though I had rotations done every 5k, I think dealer never actually rotated them on every occasion, but that's another story. Does anyone have any good advice; should I go with Pirelli again or is there a comparable, more economic tire out there?

Thanks much!

06 9-3 w/30K miles, for $23K - is this a good deal by ilocos70

Greetings from Seattle. I'm contemplating buying this car from Carter Saab/VW and wondering whether I should be leery of the high mileage on this car, considering it's only an 06. Otherwise, the car is beautiful, with almost all the bells and whistles (just no GPS). Any advice from you die-hard Saab fans/foes?

I like Michelins. Go to tirerack.com and you can read plenty about tires. When I replace my OE tires I will go with a Michelin. Michelin now owns BF Goodrich and the Traction T/A's I had on my Pontiac were great, not sure if they have a tire that fits SAAB rims.

Replacing OEM Tires by dbodek

I recently put Michelin Pilot Exaltos on my 9-3 and I am very pleased with their performance as well as the ride. They are noticeably quieter than OEM Pirellis too. I did buy them last month when Michelin had $60 rebate on 4 so I saved a little but they are slightly more than most other tires. Go to Tire Rack . com and read customer's ratings.

One of the challenges with boutique cars is chosing one with a good local dealership. Saab does not have a strong network in the U.S.

Around here one dealer has sold Saabs since the 50s, is family owned, and since the 70s has sold nothing but Saabs. They know the car, how to fix it the first time, and how to avoid problems.

The other dealership (50 miles away) sells Saab as a sideline, keeps only one mechanic, and in fact has recently dropped Saab althogether. The fanchiase previously belonged to another domestic dealership that treated Saabs (and their customers) the same way (as odd ball 2nd class citizens). I'm too old to put up with any of that!

I'm considering purchasing a 99 9-3 Convertible and was wondering if anybody had any words of wisdom.

Here's the link from the convertible section.

I'm curious as to what you did. I've now had my '05 Arc since July 2005.

I'm very happy with it, except for an occasional turbo lag--especially with the air conditioner on. Otherwise, it's performance is good. No problems. Speaker system is not great, however.

I miss the hatchback though.

Can anyone tell me what does the warranty actually mean? by wuzixu

I am planning to buy a used Saab, but confused by its warranty. Is it like BMW's service, which includes almost everything for the first 4/5 years, or it just includes very basic gurantee in the very unlikely situation, such as engine or transmission problem.
