I have a 2006 2.0LT with a 5sp manual transmision and the only time the egine knocks is when I make a mistake and shift into a higher gear when I should not have.
I live in CT and have the 10% ethanol gas.
 
If you want to run on 87 then you need to stick wth 87 don't switch grades let the engine computer adjust.
 
The 2.0L engine in these cars has a 6 QT crank case; they are built to run! If your engine knocks then either your gas is bad; or your are driving the car like a V6 and you need to adjust your driving to "rev it" and drive it like a turbo 4.

Yea, pics of the '08 look very good. I've read about the Black Turbo but hadn't seen the latest at Trollhattansaab, so thanks. Sounds like might appear in the US market sometime in 2008?
 
The updated 9-3 is slated to be released later this year, I think?

I got my Saab 9-3 last October as my first car. I had been in love with its sharp, updated looks and sporty stance ever since it hit dealer lots in 2002 for the 2003 model year. I think it is a beautiful car, and it was one of very few cars on my list when I went looking to buy. It wasn't until I got into the "cockpit" on that overcast October day that I truly knew how much I loved it though. It's a smart and powerful little car (I have the 2.0T) with a lot of luxury features for a car in its pricing range. Problems have been very limited. It was a used car when I got it, but all I've had to do was get the headlamps replaced. Two days ago, I got in an accident (my first), and thanks to the powerful braking, I ended up with only a dented license plate. I'm glad that Saab put the front license plate frame so far forward. My car has been dependable, a very valuable trait for a used car. I think that I will continue to buy Saabs in the future, and am currently talking my parents into getting the new 9-5. I just felt like giving my 2 cents, so there you go.

Another SAAB NETwork website said the XWD 9-3 will not come to US until 2008 Spring (280hp). The system can send 100% power to the front or rear as needed.
 
With XWD, the 9-3 Black seems to be a good idea (like the MB Black). Hopefully, Saab can get more sales.
 
I am surprised Saab didn't put the new V6 into the 9-5. I think the 9-5 really needs a V6...

2006 Saab 93 problems by froade

This car has been nothing but a nuisance. I have been to the dealer every month since I got this car. First it was for annoying things like the cup holder broke, and the electrical outlet in the center console shorted out. Recently, I've been experiencing something odd, and of course the dealer cannot replicate it. When I pull out of my driveway in reverse every morning, I have to floor the brakes and the car still keeps on moving in reverse. The driveway is on a slight decline. This has never happened with any of my other cars. They suggest to change the front brakes but they are hardly worn and I have no other trouble with braking. What else could it be? Help! I'd rather drive a Camry!.

Previously owned a 2001 9-3 and it was reliable and economical, but unimpressive. The 2007 is a step up in quality, handling and features.
 
The new 9-3 was flawless from the factory because of Saab's predelivery inspection protocol (PDI). The car has run without a hitch (5,000 business miles in a month and a half).
 
The assurance of GM's 5 year 100K drivetrain, 10 year unlimited corrosion, 4 year 50K bumper to bumper and roadside assistance took the risk out of owning a Saab.
 
The Saab was cheaper than a comparably equipped Accord and Camry when you added all the standard features the Saab came with to the others. The Camry was nice, though didn't appear to have the quality when they came from Japan. The Honda ride was poor. Who wants the same car a gozillion other people have anyway?

If your brakes go to the floor it's usually the master cylinder or air in the brake lines. If your brake pads were that worn you would hear metal on metal every time you hit the brakes. Ask your dealer to change the brake fluid in your system. Who knows maybe the fluid has been contaminated? If the brake fluid change does not work then next would be to check the master cylinder. Next would be the electronics that control the anti-lock brakes. This problem can be fixed. The dealer can't replicate problem is a "trick" for not having to do all the diagnostics under warranty.

I just recently bought a used 2001 9-3. Thus far I am happy with it as I was considering a Vw rabbit or a honda civic as a commuter car. I have about 139300 km on the car.
 
I was wondering if any 2001 owners have a maintanence schedule link or something as I have do not have one. it a little late for it but I'd appreciate comments from previous owners of the 2001 9-3. Thanks
