Took the advice you folks were kind enough to provide and told that dealer to stuff it. Finally found a dealer in Houlton ME who was willing to cut the b/s and be straight with me. He found the truck I wanted, gave me a solid price, and offered to get it to his dealership without me putting down so much as a penny. Not only was it the best toyota purchasing experience I have ever had, but the easiest car buy experience I have had period. My Black 2006 Access Cab 4x4 6sp. is set to arrive Nov. 1st., I can't wait! Thanks everyone for your posts as this whole site has helped alot in making my decision to buy this truck.

I have searched around my state and have been quoted for the above with power windows/locks, chrome grill, a/c, cd player for $21,750 + fees. Is this a good deal? Been quoted $23,500 + fees for same truck but with TRD Off-Road package. What say ye? No state tax in Oregon!

Glad to hear things went better!
Believe it or not there are still some dealers that want your business and it appears like you found one!!
After you take delivery.....how about posting your experience.....
Remember....knowledge is power.....the more we share....the more we learn!!

Not a problem! As soon as I take delivery, and believe me I am counting the days , I will post a final synopsis of my dealer experience. Like you said knowledge is power, and its the least I can do to post the rest of my experience. Thanks again all!

Portland, Oregon Tacoma prices?

Hey all..
I'm getting close to buying my highly desired 2006 Dblcab 4x4 auto, with the SR5 #2 pkg, tow, side airbags and jbl stereo. I've been getting quotes from around the area, and most seem to be about $500 - $1000 or so over invoice. $1000 over seems like too much. Does that sound right? Anyone have any other advice/info about Portland/Salem/Vancouver, WA area dealers?
Thanks

I just placed an order for a 2006 Tacoma Doublecab 4X4 with the TRD Package, side and side curtain airbags and the upgraded sound system. I was amazed (at least in Northern California) that none of the Tacomas on the dealer lots had the airbag option. While I think it is crazy that this is not standard equipment, it seems like a small price to pay for one of the most critical safety features on automobiles today. For those who own a 2006 Tacoma Doublecab, does anyone have excessive wind noise? I drove two of them before I placed the order and one seemed to have a lot more wind noise than the other.

I don't know about you, but I bought the Access Cab Tundra in 02 knowing that the Double Cab was not far down the road and regretted it from day one. Don't get me wrong, the Tundra was the best truck I have ever owned (including my current Tacoma DC) and if I could have gotten the same wheelbase with a double cab and shorter bed, I would have stayed with the Tundra. I love my DC. The space and accessability of the 4 door is second to none. It may be just you and the better half most of the time, but when you do happen to want to throw another couple in the back, you can do it knowing they are just as comfortable as you. I have a van that I can use most of the time when hauling other people, but it always happens that I want to run to the Home Depot store with a couple buddies or go to lunch with the crew and it is convenient because I have the room.

I am also in search for a 6 sp 2005 or 2006 Tacoma Doublecab 4X4. I really don't need the TRD package (not into racing or off roading) but more on snow like Utah and Lake Tahoe. Anyway, also would log the upgarde JBL system. Any reason why I should get a TRD, if not what would be the next best package - the SR-5. And if this requirements are not available on the dealer's lot, is it possible to order it thru the dealer so you really get what you want and not pay for what you don't need? do we have to pay extra to order and wait...Any recommendations on where best to buy - Las Vegas or Bay Area..I travel a lot between the two. I have an existing 4cyl 4WD 1990 4Runner 5 sp manual and about time to feel that V6 how it feels downshifting to a lower gear...
I need price you paid for the above with the TRD, or with the Sport package or the SR-5 package.
Thank you for any advise.

If the dealers do not have exactly what you want, it is very easy to place an order. You should not expect to pay any additional if you order it versus if it is on the dealers lot. If that is what the dealer tells you, I would walk. It shouldn't take any longer than 4 to 6 weeks from the time you place the order. The SR5 package is fine. For me, the seats that come with the TRD package offer greater support and are more comfortable. I would not expect to pay any more than $500 over invoice.

Was getting some internet quotes for a new Ford vehicle recently and the salespeople I spoke with on the phone seemed just as eager to quote a low price on a special order after they realized none of the vehicles in their (or other dealer's) inventory met my needs.
