I just bought a '99 Catera with 87,000 miles for under 5 large. It is beautiful. The only problem was with the Bose stereo sys. It would only come on when the ignition was turned off after being on. It would also turn off when any door would be opened(I know that this is Normal). When taken to the dealer my wife was told it was the water pump leaking coolant on wires that caused this annoying problem. A mere $1200 would take care of it. My wife, as savvy as they come, talked them down to $850. Not bad. The next day we get a call telling us that we also need to replace the oil sending line and darn near all the hoses, due to coolant contamination. A measely 2 freakin' large should solve these problems we are told. I was wondering if I am being gouged or if all this is possible and properly estimated? Are Catera parts hard to find? We called Pep Boys and the water pump was only about $70 bucks. So why the $850 repair quote? Please advise. Any feedback would help. Thanks Replies to this message: pinkcaddy (Jun 28, 2005 11:59 am)

I have a 2000 Catera and I have just now started having problems with the coolant leaking after on 72,000 miles. List of problems I have had   Coolant leak, left front tire rod, broken shocks in rear and left rear axle boot .   Can not wait to get rid of this car worse purchase ever and will never buy another. I have a 99 Catera and the brake lights won't go out, I disconnected the switch adjacent to the pedal but they still remain on HELP!!!!!

Replying to: carlosd (May 21, 2005 3:59 am) it sounds like the majority of the cost is labor. the coolant is leaking on my car as well and the cost to replace a valve was $400.00. 75% of the cost was labor. i am looking for an honest mechanic (not at a cadillac dealership) that can fix my car. no luck yet.
