Where in Wisconsin do you live? I'm in Waukesha, and also have a black/black Aurora ('98). I've got some co-workers going to SEMA, so I'm going to have them talk to Corsa to make sure I'll be able to get their exhaust next summer (when she's paid off --Robert |

| I'm from Racine. I lived in Waukesha for a couple of years, but that has been a while. | |
| I did not know people living behind the cheddar curtain bought Auroras. | |

Also, those are not the stock tips on the car. Nice car. |

Back in first part of Nov 03, A friend of mine who drives a wrecker service told me about an Aurora, that would sell on sealed bid. He knew of somebody that had bid $450, so I bid $500, and got it. He told me about the car over the phone and I trust him so it was mine. Black on Black, and very straight 183,000 mi. He put cables on it and lo and behold, it started. albiet with a top end rattle. He was convinced that it was not internal. The car had been abandoned at an Oklahoma gas station, and was thought to have a blown engine due to the oil stain underneath it. So welcome to the wide wide exciting world of AURORAville! From looking at the postings, am I the only person in America stupid enough to tear into this engine? don't answer that! We were pretty much convinced that the noise which sometimes stopped while revving the engine, was coming from the PS pump. After towing it 500 miles to my home and checking it. it seems that the noise was coming from the timing gears on the left side of the engine looking from the passenger side of the car. Experience told me that it was probably a timing chain tensioner. I have since torn into this engine with a passion, and am constantly amazed at the design of this 4.0. (this ain't no small block Chevy) Upon finally removing the timing chain cover, it was obvious that the tensioner on the left side of the engine was at full extension and frozen there. The guide that this tensioner pushes on was worn to the point that it would not hold the chain tight. Car fax shows This car had the same owner for the most part of it's life. If I were to make an educated guess from its condition, it was the product of a heavy smoking female who obtained it from a divorce or something similar. It Has a tag from a country Club on the bumper. Yet many things don't seem right. it appears to have been bottomed out repeatedly on country roads, as the oil pan had been scrapped through, and a patch was made with what looks like gasket material, a piece of Aluminum, and some short sheet metal screws. It gets better... This car is really straight on the outside, needs some polishing, but it had only 1 hub cap, no spare, no jack, no floor mats, radio ate my CD, Cassette was stuck inside, power antenna did not work, the horn did not work, only one good tire, the front two are so bald you can see the air, one of the rear tires is off of a chevy pickup, all the hood and trunk supports broken or barely working. and JB weld spilled and hardened on the passenger side fender. (I still haven't figured out where that came from) I have parts ordered but have yet to get them in to put it back together. I ordered an oil pan gasket, but from reading the posts, this might not be the leak. I changed the oil in it as soon as I got the car, and it sat in my garage for about 2 months before I had a chance to work on it more. The car had not been started since the oil change, and it leaked oil all over the place, and not from the patch. PROBLEM 1. A friend of mine from way back in the military is well versed on all things mechanical, who is interested in the Northstar/Aurora mystic. He stated that he was concerned as to why this timing chain tensioner failed, as he felt that a drop in oil pressure would cause this. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. My wife loves the car and wants to drive it, but after 4 months of trying to work on it in my spare time, I am beginning to wonder if all my work and money spent will be a waste. I noticed in a post that some seal might go out that would cause the oil pressure to drop... When I started the car before disassembly, it smoked slightly out of the drivers side tail pipe. like oil smoke. I am really concerned for many reasons, the car even though the body is straight, it looks like it was driven fast on rough roads. the front lower splash shield is gone, the passenger side inner fender well shield is also gone. It looks like somebody sat on the roof with the sun roof open, and dented the corners at the rear of the sunroof opening. I have about $1200 invested in this car so far, it needs tires, and a windshield (what do these cost?) I really want to drive and enjoy this car, but I don't need a money pit! I searched on this site for a forum or postings on my families current car, we bought it at 6 months old in 1991, with low miles, have taken care of it with regular 2000 mile synthetic only oil changes, only premium gas, and alot of TLC for what is now over 230,000 miles! Well I found one posting, this car was built virtually unchanged for 5-7 years. What is it? A PLYMOUTH ACCLAIM!!! Yea the aRoara is sooooooooo kewl, but I am having my doubts. has anybody had similar problems with the tensioners or a leak that might have caused the tensioner to go out? Please let me know if you can. I want to keep this car so bad, but not if I have to mortgage the kids. Thanks PR |

Well first of all welcome to the boards "wayo", Second I see you have the heart for the Aurora's like most of us here, I just hope that everything turns out well for you in the process of putting back together of your Aurora. I can tell you that the Auroras need lots of attention, the consequences can be brutal. Also you might want to look on ebay for parts, believe it or not, there is stuff you can get for the Aurora there, to start you can always find those center hub caps there. Well I really hope everything turns out well at the end. Do keep us posted. Javi Http://www.cardomain.com/id/javidogg |
