Tape pinestriping is applied by the dealerships, NOT the factory. Same goes for upholstery treatment. The dealers charge anywhere from $125.00 to $200.00 for spraying Scotchguard on the upholstery and having one of their minimum wage broom-pushers unfurl self-adhesive tape striping onto a new car. You can buy aerosol Scotchguard at WalMart for less than $4.00, and the tape striping at Pep Boys for less than $5.00. You tell me whether these additions to the factory sticker price are dealer padding or not. (Hint: you do NOT have to accept unrequested dealer add-ons, and many dealers will leave the pinstriping in place and just deduct the additional markup during negotiations if you balk, rather than chance having to repair paint damage if their detail guy lifts paint while removing the tape striping.)

Picked up LX today by mthielman

Well I just bought a new LX this afternoon. I had looked at a couple different cars. I like the Ford Fusion a lot, but the Sonata offered much more for the money. I traded in a 2002 Sonata and man I can not believe this is the same model. The 2006 model is beautiful. I paid 22,300 for the car minus the 3K in incentives, plus tax(1178) and dealer fees(380) so it was about 21K out the door. That included the slight loss on my '02 since I owed a little more than I got for it. I had almost bought one last week from another dealer but they only wanted to give me $2500 on the trade. I got $3400 today. And I did not take a big loss at all on the car so I was very happy. I already have a new loan so I plan to refinance soon. They did tell me I need to wait 3 months, but we will see. Overall I am very happy. I got the Dark Cinnamon nice color.

You seem to have taken a hit on the trade-in value unless the '02 was in very rough condition. Essentially, they gave you nothing for your trade-in.

Trade in "... I got $3400 today...". That seems to be on the low side.
Early this month I traded in a Sonata 2001 - 4 Cyl. Auto with 50K for $6,000.

Refinance:
"...so I plan to refinance soon. They did tell me I need to wait 3 months, but we will see...": Do not take their word for it ... Read your Financing Contract: if it is not written in there and/or signed something about waiting 3 months: they are telling you a bunch of b.s.
If there is no pre-payment penalty stipulated in the Loan Contract; you can pay it off anytime you like!

Well the Car had 87,000 miles on it. It also needed new bakes and the Air bag light was on indicating a problem and so was the emergency brake light. So it was kind of at the point where I would have needed to throw some money into it.

The price in #924 is 17500. I wonder how is it possible if invoice price $20331 (cardirect.com)? Even with $2000 rebates... It's still $18331?

Invoice: $20331, Destination: $600, Dealer's earning: ~ $500 = $21443. Now, comparing it with the price from #929 - I still wonder, how does dealer agree to sell the car for ~ $19500... It's seems there is something I don't know, please explain

Thanks

According to Edmund's the invoice is $19,831 including destination. So the dealer sold it at $331 below invoice. There could be factory to dealer incentives and/or sales volume bonuses. Plus, invoice price may be higher than the price a dealer actually pays.
