"Besides, if you buy a car from out of town, how does your local dealer know you didn't just move into town and started coming to them for service?"

In this case, Zen2 has already visited the PA dealers and received quotes. They know Zen2 didn't just move into town already owning a Sonata. Sounds like your experiences have been different, but the dealers I have purchased vehicles from have certainly given me special treatment, with freebies and car loaners when they didn't have too. They've worked hard to make me a repeat buyer. Dealer service is obviously going to vary depending on the management and workers, but in talking with the establishments I've patronized, they readily admit to providing extra service for people who buy vehicles from them.

Anyway, that's beside the point. My main argument was that Zen2 will still be serviced by the local dealers no matter where the car is purchased from, and Fitz has a good reputation for easy purchases at extremely aggressive rates.

Nearly a $1,000 below invoice. Good job! In terms of the extra rebate this week, it's difficult to predict what the manufacturer is going to do, so don't beat yourself up over it. For all we know the rebate could become even more appealing next week, or disappear altogether. Forget about it and enjoy that new Sonata!

Thanks Ty...

I'm already enjoying the Sonata. It's a great car...Hyundai really hit the nail on this one.

As for the extra in the rebate, I called my dealership to see if there is anything they could do for this. Hopefully, they can compensate me in some way for this change, but I'm not going to be holding breath.

I just looked at their website and their prices for a base LX (no sunroof & no 6 disc changer) is $18,792 and for the Pkg. 3 LX is $20,070! That is about $5K off MSRP. I realize there are rebates out there, but these discounts are pretty unbelievable. What do you all think is going on?? Since they have been introduced, I've maybe seen a half dozen or so on the road. Is the car not selling well? At these prices, who cares about resale value? Is Hyundai concerned that the Sonata is not the big hit it was hoping for? I don't understand since, according to the NHTSA, it's one of safest cars on the road today. Thoughts please. Thanks!

In the past, the Sonata was not too competitive with the best cars in its class. With the redesign, it is now competitive but it's still a new model. Also I think public perception re Hyundai's quality and reliability has lagged the improvements made over the past few years. And Hyundai buyers are used to getting big discounts and rebates. The Sonata's price jumped up with the redesign, also. And it's a brutal market out there, with so many good mid-sized cars to compete with, almost all of which are heavily discounted (e.g. today's ad: $6000-7000 off the Mazda6, in my town). So I think it's a number of things. Take advantage of the situation!

Well there is a 1K rebate going on with the V6 models plus a 1K incentive if you finance through Hyundia finance. That's a good portion of the discount ..

Like most vehicles, the Sonata sunroof drops the headliner down roughly a couple of inches. It's most noticeable in the Sonata from the back seat. When sitting in the back seat and looking forward, you can see a noticeable drop in the headliner just in front of your face that continues all the way forward.

But even after the discounts they are 800 to 1000 under invoice.
How do they make money doing this?

I would like you to provide me website, phone no., address for this dealer. So that I can make a better deal with local dealer or atleast buy from your dealer. I almost bought it today for $21,000.00 but held off. I test drove LX it's excellent.
Your immediate response would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
