Congratulations on your Sonata. Because we've owned 3 Elantras, with a total of 200,000 miles and only two repairs that I ever had to pay for, I decided to get a Sonata, since it has all the features I would want in an entry-level lux car.

So this evening I'm scheduled to pick up an '09 Limited I-4, black / cocoa, with navigation, for $21,699 out the door. That seems to be a good deal in the Atlanta area. And they're extending the powertrain warranty to 20 / 200,000, and you can get the maintenance done anywhere, not just atthe dealer.

I just bought a Sonata on 4/11/2009 and wanted to share my experiences. I paid $14,500 (dealer sticker price was $21,195) for a brand new 2009 Sonata GLS 2.4 4cyl 5speed. I love it. I bought it from Pearson Hyundai in Richmond, VA. It's Slate Blue with the gray interior.

The first thing that stands out to me is the great gas mileage I get! The car is fun to drive and the 4cyl 2.4 engine has plenty of zip to get around town or merge onto the interstate.

I drove a lot of other mid-size sedans while shopping, and I have to say that the Sonata is hands down the best deal for the money.

What I like:

The aggressive looking front end, very stylish exterior, interior room, fantasitc gas mileage, instrument panel, ride comfort, and the trunk is bigger than my first apartment (seriously, that trunk is massive).

What I don't like:

I found that I'm hard-pressed to find something wrong with the car, but I wanted to put something here. So, here are my (admittedly very picky) issues with the car. The passenger side sun visor does not come with the extention like the driver's side, the engine can be a little bit loud at high RPM in low gears, and...uh...that's really it.

I have to say, I am extremely happy and pleased with the '09 Sonata, and would recomend it to anyone!

congratulations on the new Sonata. Is 14,500 out of the door price you paid? If so, that is terrific!

That $14,500 is a great price.

However, the dealer sticker of $21,195 is $1800 higher than MSRP for a Sonata GLS stick shift, unless you have every option available. which would still be less than dealer sticker. The dealer sticker probably included dealer add-ons, such as window etching, pin stripes, fabric protectors, etc.

MSRP, including destination, is $19,395 and invoice is $18,617 (without options), so you still got a great deal.

Hope yours treats you as well as my '05 and my brother's '07 have treated us.

Well... he didn't say he bought a stick shift Sonata. He said he bought a "5 speed" Sonata. For 2009, all Sonatas sold in the U.S. are "5 speed." Would be nice to know if it's a stick or automatic.

It's a stick shift.

The $14,500 price I got included things like window etching, floor mats, fabric protection (glorified Scotch Guard), mud guards, cargo net, iPod cable, and the Blu-Tooth hook up (which I'll never use), but, of course, did not include tax, title, tags, and destination charge.

I'm sure others buying a similar '09 Sonata have gotten a better deal (a quick cruise through the forums here has confirmed that), but for a 26 year old buying his first "brand new" car, I think I made out pretty well, and came in under my budget.

Again, for those reading this thread looking for owner reviews, please do yourself a favor and at least test drive the 2009 Sonata! Talk about "bang for your buck!" This car will suprise you (and your wallet).

backy: Did you qualify for the $1,400 owner loyalty rebate?

One dealer on the phone is offering the automatic Limited 4cyl with moon roof and navigation system for $21,500 OTD (California, including $1,400 of Owner Loyalty Rebate). Is that good?

thks

No, but I got a great price on a VW Certified 2007 Rabbit I bought about 3 weeks ago, to replace a totaled car.

One of the cars on my "buy" list was a 2008 Hyundai Certified Sonata GLS I4 AT with moonroof. It too had a very good price, but I decided to pass on it because it was not a color I prefer (plain white with tan interior; I already have a sedan in that color in the family), it had some minor damage that the dealer seemed reluctant to fix at their asking price, and the car had been smoked in--a lot. Plus the Rabbit is more fun to drive and has better crash safety, and I do like hatchbacks.

That's almost exactly the configuration I was looking for; who quoted you that (if you can say)?

Another hatchback-lover! I've been looking at several new cars to replace my '06 Mazda3 s 5-door. I love my '06, but it's a manual transmission and my daily 85-mile commute is killing me. I need an automatic.

Most of the cars on my short list (Hyundai Sonata included) are sedans, but I'm not sure if I can go back to a regular trunk after having my 5-door hatchback!
