I agree 100% with you that it saves time and allows a buyer to gather more offers as opposed to driving around to 10 dealerships. The one caveat is when negotiating over email, you never know what kind of fees they are going to tag on just when you are ready to buy the car at the dealership. Their goal is to get you into their dealership. Lastly, I feel this is the best time to go buy a car. It is the end of the month, the end of the year and cars are just sitting on the lot and rebates are all over the place. |

Here is an email I received from a Long Island Hyundai dealership when I quoted a rate of $16,660 + TTL for a 2009 Hyundai GLS 4 CYL Auto. (I actually bought the car for $16,500). I've spoken with my managers and the offer from the Queens dealer is not possible unless they are taking over $1000 in actual loss on the car. The only other way they are doing it is to hit you with some undisclosed fees once you get there. They may figure that you went all the way there why not just take the car. We don't deal that way but I know of many that do. If I were you I'd have a buyers order written and faxed to you as binding proof that it's a real price. They will in all likelyhood ask for a deposit. If you want to get that price you should give them one stating that it's totally refundable at your request. (State law says they must refund at your request). I am not able to meet, muchless beat that price. Let me know how it works out. It is, qute simply, not a price that any responsible dealer with integrity would make. |

And how long would you say the 2009 models have been sitting on the lots? As for the extra fees...that's the beauty of email. Everything is in writing. So when they offer you X and state no additional fees, they've already put it in writing.

That being said, I have read countless messages on these forums here where even with a quote in writing, they still try to screw you. In the end, we have the power to walk away, which is the last thing they want to see, especially in this market. |

Then you take off the rebate. They do add a doc fee of $249, which they include in their price quote. A GLS 4cyl, A/T has an invoice of $19751 according to edmunds. Towne's price would be $16,150 plus tax & registration. No claims of end of the month special...you've gotta buy today for this price...or any of that other phoney stuff. |

I paid $16,036 plus a $169 doc fee.and $45 tire fee and tags. 2009 GLS I4 A with flloor mats and lifetime oil changes. Black with grey interior. Great car for the money...though the rear suspension is a little tight...but, no problem. |
