Probably because an SE with MT is not a very popular car. ATs are much more popular in this kind of car. But someone in Houston will get a really good deal!

The difference between the one SE in Houston and advertised Internet prices at dealers like Towne and Fitzmall is that there's many cars at those prices, vs. a "loss leader" to draw traffic, which the ad in Houston appears to be. Unless they offer nearly $6000 off list on all their other Sonatas?

Edmunds Invoice for base GLS was 18,083, thus why Howard thought it would be 14K +T and L. If Towne can do that, theyve got a deal tomorrow (and evidently I've got quite a deal as well). I was hung up on 0 percent interest, but if I'm going to be putting 10K down and get 5.2 % through our union, 0 percent interest really isn't that big of a deal. It's just a matter of asking for it and seeing if one of the two will give it to me.

Ill be calling tomorrow (says they arent open but youd think on President's Day weekend theyd be all systems go).

So far other places aren't calling me back when I asked for that, but I'll wait and see.

Thanks again.

Be sure to add the $675 destination charge to the invoice, which brings it to the $18,758 I noted before.

You must also include destination charge, as it is part of the invoice. Invoice on the GLS A/T including destination is $18,758..carpeted floor mats would add $68.

You'd be looking at $18,758 invoice less $2K dealer discount = $16,758. IF your sales tax is 7%, that would bring the price to $17,931 + 189 + 200 =$18,320. Deduct $2K rebate and you're OTD for $16,320 +/- a couple bucks.

Check Townhyundai.com and click on internet specials. The same formula applies to all trim levels and any options. If they don't have the exact car you want they will attempt a dealer swap to get you what you want.

I wish I could tell you the salesman's name, maybe you could ask for someone familiar with sales to people in CT when you call. They may very well be open tomorrow, they were open the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend last year.

If the buyer lives outside NJ, would they still have to pay the $200 or would they just pay for the license back home?

That $200 fee is a bit odd...probably because it's done by a third party. We were transferring plates from old car to the '07 Sonata last Feb and the fee was $200. In April a buddy of mine bought an Azera and had to get new plates since he was coming off a lease--same $200 fee. Two months later he bought a used (low miles, mint) '03 Sonata from them. We're in Trumbull, CT (dunbar should mention that to help get the same salesman) and combined we have referred 5 other people from CT to them & in each case the same $200 fee applied. (Temporary NJ plates good for a month were included.)

I don't know what the fee, if any, would be for a NJ resident. I think it could be lower.

Thinking of comparisons, Backy, what would you consider the better way to go including, price, reliability, just about anything else....between only the Hyundai Sonata and Elantra ? Why ? Which level, gls, se,limited, whatever? 4 or 6 ? Just trying to also plan for the next .......maybe 6 mos. Appreciate your input. oh, think automatic.
Thanks, Van

Just wanted you to know that when I mentioned the 18053 I wasn't trying to counter the 18,758 number you'd left, I trusted you . I did though wonder if I should be negotiating them down, and if trying to get 0 percent financing with the 16400 is just a pipe dream....

car buying is such a joy 16400 OTD, 18400 OTD......I've been looking at pluses and minuses of each for frigging 2 hours now...........If they'd come down just a little I'd be golden.

PS Is it just me, or is this overall a pretty darn good new car deal regardless of whether or not I can get them to come down a little more-even with how much Hyundai's depreciate?. I looked at the Honda Fit, but your looking at a Fit costing a 1000 more than this....???

Good question, one that I have a personal interest in, but since this is a "prices paid" discussion maybe we could take that one up in the general 2009 Sonata discussion, or maybe the Midsized Sedans 2.0 discussion?

Basically no matter how good the deal is, there always seems to be someone who will claim that he/she got a better deal, which may be true or not; however that should not make you regret your purchase.
If you do your homework, do research, and first of all decide how much car you need, there is a chance you'll get a good deal. Maybe not the best deal but a deal that should prevent you from regretting the purchase.

Back on topic, when I bought my 08 Sonata Limited V6, I had researched cars for months. We wanted to buy something in the larger midsize class. I test drove many cars, even some smaller SUV's. I wanted a V6, my wife wanted leather and heated seats. So basically the top trim level, whatever vehicle we decide on.

I liked the new 08 Accord V6, and even though I got offers 300 below invoice it was still 26K for a V6 EX-L w/ no nav. Also considered Toyota RAV4, but Limited trim w/ leather pushed it to 28K (and that's at invoice price not MSRP). Liked the Aura too, but still around 25K (not much haggling with Saturn).

I've always liked Sonatas, so I came back to checking out Hyundai again. Fitzmall had 08 Limited V6 w/ sunroof and mats and cargo net for $20,661.00 plus TTL. That's $5,219.00 off the MSRP of $25,880. I was sold. We intend to keep this car a long time. But even with the depriciation, what can you get for a little over $20K these days loaded in the midsize segment? I considered this a lot of car for the the money I paid for it.

Towne Hyundai may have slighly lower prices but I was flying out from Ohio to Fitzmall and my ticket to D.C. was $68.00 as opposed to flying to Towne H. for around $300.00. Towne's proc. fee is higher too. And less distance driving home too.

Anyway, I am happy with the deal I got. Could it have been even better? I'm sure it could. Like I said there is always someone who says he got a much better deal than you did.

(However, I have doubts about certain claims I've heard that state that a brand new 08 Sonata Limited V6 could have been had for 18.5K out the door. And that supposedly was couple months ago, way before the 09s were announced to come out early).
In my state (OH) that would mean that the before taxes selling price would have to be $17K. I highly doubt that could be done on a new car with an MSRP of 25-26K)
