2006 Sonata LX - pricing plus queries by maudlin

Hi Everyone!

I am first time NEW buyer, so I am unaware of all the holdback, delivery charges, advertisement fee etc. Is there any section at Edmunds.com or other website that explains what to look for? the world of used cars is so much easier.

Now I have my eyes set on 2006 Sonata LX, package 3 (fully loaded). Even though I may not use all the features but I have always wanted a car with all teh features. I would like to know what all you guys have paid out of the dealership, with the breakdown.

Any tips from the seasoned champs out here?

Regards,
Dave

That is very close to what I got mine for after adding the price of your sunroof.
This assumes your 19,500 includes taxes tags etc.

The whole transaction took less than an hour.

Advertising fees, don't even... by mevande

Advertising fees, don't even let them discuss it! It's a joke to make it part of any discussion re: a deal. The Honda and Toyota dealers never use this # as a bargaining fee. The TRUTH is that dealer gets $$$ from the Hyundai for advertising. Its boldface lying to tell a consumer it's part of the cost.

Hey Dave,
I'll be honest with you...there's not much mark up compared to domestic vehicles, maybe $600-$1200 depending on the model. Holdback for Hyundai is also less than most other brands, let the dealership and salesman help you decide how much you're gonna pay. If you like the place and person you're planning to buy from, don't kill them as much, if you don't like them, beat the hell out of them on price. Keep in mind that the value you're getting in these cars is outstanding!

Hope this helps any!
Ben

Post 389 just sounds like so much BS (Barbara Streisand). Hyundai dealers do have a holdback. something like 3% of invoice. MSRP vs "invoice" on my '05 GLS SV was $1150, which the salesman was going to take $500 off retail because I was referred by a friend who leased a Mercury from him. But there was a $500 advertising fee computer printed, supposedly by Hyundai, on the invoice which he showed me without me even asking to see it. Salesman seemed like a nice enough guy. I spoke with him in February & test drove one of his cars. (I was waiting for bonus money to come in for the downpayment.) We spoke 5 or six times in the next few weeks.

On March 29 I had the money & called him for an appointment that afternoon. We talked, and he was a likable guy. But, I couldn't get a price from him even though I was ready to give him a deposit check. He wanted to work everything around a monthly payment. I told this nice guy what I was willing to pay (based on internet research, which he trashed). DON'T ever "let the dealership and salesmen help you decide how much you're gonna pay." If you think letting them help you determine your price makes any sence, let me sell you my 14 year old convertible for $15,000...it COULD be a collector item some day.

I bought in FL and took delivery on April 13. Saved $1500+ on car purchase and spent just over $300 on trip to FL (stayed 3 nights with my parents = free lodging) including all transportation expenses, gas, tolls, & 1 over night on the road. 1365 road miles driving back.

Yep, the local salesman was likeable. But I liked $1200+ in my pocket more than I liked him. And guess what? The local dealer will still provide any service I pay for or is a warrantee item.

IMO, Ben from # 389 is way of base and offered textbook advice on how to get screwed.

for those buying hyundais see the 2005 prices as well. i dunno the current rebates but about 2 months ago i picked up a 2005 GL v6 (no xtras) for $14200 + tax + doc fees. i don't have a prev hyundai so no owner loyalty rebates either.

imo you should be able to pull off a better deal now since GM/Ford/Chrysler are all offering super savings with their employee pricing stuff, and im sure hyundai doesnt want to drop in market share. of course this applies to 2005 cars, 2006 cars dont have as many rebates or incentives to budge on price.

2005 GL V6, $15,600 by edstone

Recently got a base-level 2005 GL V6 for $15,600 + $100 doc fee, etc. + tax (no trade-in). They had to hunt surrounding dealerships for that trim level & my desired color. The one they found had a few extras that were included "free": cargo net, pin striping, undercoating, sealer.

The price included the $1750 rebate since I wasn't using their 1.9% financing (went with CapitalOne at 5.29%).

Survived the finance room without biting on any of the high-profit insurance/warranty items. For example, "gap" insurance was offered at $595 when it can be gotten from independent sources, if desired, for $300.

According to Consumer Reports, the wholesale price is $15,100 for this trim level, therefore the dealer made $500 profit.

Many auto insurance companies include GAP insurance in package endorsements they offer. These package endorsements include alot and usually cost no more than $30 a year (in Connecticut). GAP insurance may also be avilable as a stand alone coverage, again at a low price. Check with your insurance agent to see what your company offers. You could save hundreds!

This includes the 600 destination charge, and 250 for advertising (INSTead of 500). But not taxes or anything. If you include documentation charges blah blah, i ended up paying (with sales tax) some 21,100 odd. Same deal?

My price of 18,791 included EVERYTHING, the bottom line. Included were 4 free oil changes and yearly state inspections. I still believe the dealers story that the date I bought was the "end of the quarter" as why did I do so well? They also knew I was ready to buy as I was calling from outside the door of another dealership.
