In addition to the response I posted in the Azera: buying experience, and if safety ratings are utterly important, then Sonata would be the perfect subsitute (5 stars all around, which is rare, even for NHTSA standards ; above average for IIHS studies). That said, I've still got the soft spot for the Azera, but it's up to you - can't go wrong with either - ask the owners!!!

Thanks Michieroo
I haven't talked price with them yet, but I did go to Automax South for a test drive and it was a great, low pressure experience

Well done! I should have held out for some better incentives, but my wife's daily driver went kaput...so we took this opportunity to check out the model car I had my eye on for over 4 years now.

Thanks so very much for the reply. I take it you own the Sonata? I'm not a consumer reports subscriber (unfortunatly) but was curious if you've had good luck w/you car? how long have you had it? Sorry for the qustions but I'm still at a crossroad (you know, can't help it with that stereo-type of Hyundai vs. Honda or Toyota)... I could use the reassurance. thanks...

I just spent 5 hours in a Hyundai Dealership, and while I was not there to buy, I did check out the Azera very closely. While it is really nice and more luxurious than the Sonata LX, it reminds me of a Toyota Camry. Certainly not as sporty, or as 'cute' looking as the Sonata. I don't know what was in the auto wash machine at my Dealer today, but it sure spit out one shiny Hyundai

I sat in a showroom Azera the day I bought my Sonata (Saturday) and It was so roomy, I thought I was sitting in a Grand Marquis. Its a beautifully appointed vehicle.

My car has been trouble free for 7,000 miles now. I am extremely satisfied and almost laugh at the fact that I could have had a Camry or Accord for about $4000 more. I got the GLS I4 and it gives me everything I need and then some. The car is very quiet and comfortable on long drives. I love the standard Alloy Wheels, side curtain airbags, audio controls on the steering wheel, four wheel disc brakes, ABS, ESC and the MPS reader in the cd player that allows you to burn up to 12 hours of music on one CD.
I test drove the Accord, Altima, Sonata and Camry. My final two was the Camry and Sonata. After looking at what I get for the money it was a no brainer to get the Sonata. Easiest decision I have ever made and I don't regret it one second.

What are the pros and cons w/ Altima? My co-worker has a brand new one. I didn't ask her about the features, but the car is very attractive. The interior is more stylish than a Sonata in my opinion.

Depends on what you are looking for. My problem with the Altima was the noise. At hwy speeds it was extremely loud and sounded like it was revving too much. That noise got on my nerves after five minutes of non-stop noise, just imagine what it would do after 1,000 miles. Some people like that noise, I don't which is why I liked the quieter Sonata.
