Still, doesn't look like a Forester, Legacy, or a legacy wagon. I am sure people can try to get almost anything into some kind of class for Solo racing. Doesn't add sporting heritage or ability to the car. What class does Subaru run in in Solo? Stock what, modified what? I will look first chance I get. Someone that posted in some other forum I was in even raced a Insight in Scca Solo. Does quite well in class I think. I am not ready to concede it is a sports coupe.

I'll auto-x or track just about anything!

I've auto-xed:

Outbacks
WRX Wagons
WRX Sedans
XT6 AT
XT6 MT
Impreza L
Impreza RS
Grand Am Sedan
SVX
RX7
Honda Civic Hatchback (70hp 83lbs torque 4MT)
Legacy L
Legacy L Wagon

In SCCA the outback runs in H-stock.
In NASA it runs in Group G.

The Outback wagon did great at the auto-x. Lots of power etc. Most of the cars I auto-x are ATs as well.

Took 2nd place that day in class (about 7-10 cars in class)

so much about Solo. They will race about anything. Still, it seems quite a stretch to call one a GT after a road racer. What class is the Legacy wagon? How do you get passed the weight penalty? I take that back, you are running stock. Does any of this carry over to Pro Solo?

It must be remembered my grass roots racing in 1/8 and 1/4 mile drag racing and I don't see many wagons running. I have only been to SCCA events in our area. What district are you running in? I'll try to follow your progress.

so we are on the same page. We see racing SUVs in desert racing as well but I am not willing to call them GT SUVs either.

But when I said I watched SCCA and foreign sedan racing I was talking about the Touring car races in both the US and Europe. At the Atlanta race on June 27-29 I didn't see one Subaru let alone a Subaru wagon. They did race a hatch or two I believe. Out of 44 cars I don't believe I saw one wagon. Can anyone confirm if Subaru has a touring car team and how they are doing?

But we are building a '96 Impreza L. Currently we are doing HPDEs, Time Trials, and SCCA and NASA Solos/Auto-xs. 1/4mile? 1/8mile? You mean straight line? That's not exactly racing, that's just where I go to test mods after taking a baseline. No GT car will do well in a drag race, they are generally too heavy.

As for touring cars, Gary Sheehan(sp?) has been doing the touring car circuit in his WRX Sedan.

taking the family car to the dragstrip by subewannabe

boaz47 reminded me of the days before noise ordinances, where everybody could enter their car in stock classes at the local dragstrip. i once ran a '56 coupe de ville (sweet!) and had to be careful not to bust out of class at 25 seconds!

a 280 hp turbo AWD staton wagon may not meet the usual definitions of GT, but it would still be a hoot to drive. i wonder if it comes with a rear-
 facing third seat?

Ahh, but we can race here at many of the old airports. I don't live far from Pomona where they sometimes have the Summer Nationals. But many small communities are opening part of their municipal airports on weekends to get the kids off of the streets. You do see a lot of those fast and furious cars there as well as some classic Novas, Mustangs and Chevelles.

I started going because I realized I had no idea what direction the new generation of younger racers were going. 1/8 and 1/4 mile local drags are it. These kids build the cars and maintain them and I was impressed. No they are not as fast as Pro stock cars but they do pretty well considering.

I am sure many drag racers would dispute cone racing as racing as well. Even if both have their place. Consider that John force has driven a car faster than Michael Shumacher several times and done it in under 4.7 seconds.

But still, we are talking touring racing and wagons? The WRX is hardly a wagon in the sense of this SUV verses wagons.
