misfiring by highdef

I have a 2003 GLS and I have had a big problem with my car misfiring. I seem to notice it mostly when I am sitting still like at a stop light. It gets really bad when there is a draw on the engine such as the air conditioner or the heater. It really seems like the car has the hiccups. No problems starting or dying just surging. My mechanic says it is not throwing any codes. He has replace spark plugs twice, spark plug wires, timing belt, water pump, checked the fuel filter which is in the gas tank and he has done just about everything he knows how to find the problem. This car has 98000 miles on it and before I take it to the dealer I wanted to see if anyone has had this problem.

Air admittance valve controls the idle speed.

It could be any number of things. I'm curious, does your mechanic work for the dealer? I'm guessing he doesn't, because you mentioned taking it "to the dealer" to have it checked out.

You should really consider taking it to the dealer immediately for two reasons: 1) they specialize in Hyundai and they may know exactly what it is, 2) it may be an issue that is covered under your 10/100,000 warranty. You only have 2,000 miles left on your warranty, so you may want to get in there as soon as possible.

I know you were looking for an answer and, unfortunately, all I can tell you is to take it to your dealer. But, hey, you never know, it could be an issue that is covered by your warranty and you won't have to pay a dime!

Thanks for responding. I had almost given up on getting any kind of answer. I'll try to pop the hood next time this happens to see if I see something.

Sonata 2006 4cyl any one replaced their own fuel filter, Looking at the Hyundai site you need a special tool around $180 and new gaskets, I have removed the access panel in the trunk and tried to remove but looks a hard job without special tool. Any ideas appreciated.

Possibly you can do the dirty work like remove the seat and let the dealer turn the clip install the filter and leave the back seat out. Since they charger by the hour their part should take 30 minutes.
I have a 2009 and I think it is a poor design to place a maintance item in the fuel tank.

If you want Genuine Hyundai parts they come from Hyundai. If you want alternate parts it depends what you want. Filters, spark plugs, brakes an auto part store should have what you need,

I had exactly the same last week with my 2007 Sonata 50,000 miles here in the Netherlands, the sound also disappearing whilst breaking. The Hyundai workshop recognised the sound immediately, the break pads simply needed renewal, the sound is caused by a metal feather which on purpose/.by design touches the breakdisk to alert the driver that break pad renewal is required. After the new brake pads were fixed, the sound was gone. So maybe check whether in your case same cause.

Thank you very much for your information.
But my car only have 30000 miles, and just did maintenance service, they said my brake in good condition, no need to change. But I don't know if they check pad or not.
Anyway, I really appreciate.
