You have a lot of dedication! I have a 2000 2.4 manual Sonata and my [second] clutch lasted over 50,000 mi. of use. (I vaguely recall they replaced the first clutch along with a squeaky bushing due to a TSB back around 25-30k mi). I replaced the clutch mainly because at the time they were replacing my engine block and I figured that was the ideal time to do it with the engine torn apart. I now regret it -- the clutch lasted maybe 3,000 and failed along with several bearings and the flywheel. Then they installed another clutch, that again, started slipping soon after. Thank heavens this was under the powertrain warranty or I would not have been able to afford it all. Oh boy. Then they put in this last clutch and it seems to be holding after about 2,000 mi. However, the dealer said they 'removed the check valve' from the clutch slave cylinder (maybe the master cylinder, I dont remember) at the direction of the Hyundai rep who came to investigate. This really bothers me because they couldn't explain why they had to take apart and disable the check valve the car was designed with, in order to keep from burning up clutches. There are no TSBs on this issue. But still the service manager had no good explanation than saying Hyundai told him to do it. I asked to talk to the Hyundai guy but I never heard from anyone about the issue. Does anyone know what this check valve issue is all about? It makes me seriously worry about Hyundai, and I'm very worried this clutch is equally not long for this world.

Oh and today I found out my engine crank pully has deteriorated and pulled the alternator drive belt into the timing belt cover, ruining all three. Fun, fun! And 700 miles left on the warranty.... Thank Gd!

Door Locks by mysonata2

My '01 Sonata is stumping my mechanic. Each time you shut the car off, the clock defaults to 1:00, the radio pre-sets are lost and have to be reset. Additionally, the auto locks have stopped working recently. My mechanic believes it is all tied together, has hooked it up to his computer and can't find a bad wire or what might be causing this electrical mystery. He's taken the door taken apart and put back together again to no avail. Help!!!

Did he take the clock out (Or remove the connector) to see if the voltage supplied to the clock with the power off? There needs to be a voltage on the clock to keep time and another wire appys power so you can see the clock when the key is turned on.

Parking Brake Drag by jtoney1044

Well, I have a 2008 Sonata with 17K miles. I went to Monro for an oil change because my dealer is 45 minutes away so sometimes I cheat and go locally. They calle dme and told me that I need rear brakes. I let them do it. Now, 3 days later, I hear a thump thump thump sound. I take off rear tire (which was tight as crap because they air-gunned the hell out of it) and spun the rotor by holding the lugs. it catches/drags at a certain point and I believe that they over did the p-brake adjustment. How do you adjust it once you take the plug out?

Go back to Monro and complain. A lot of these types of chains employ poorly trained people.

I have 2007 sonata GLS, last week just did 30000 miles maintenance service, after that, each time when I start the car, I can hear the water sound from drive side dash. Not always each time, but if the engine is cold, like each morning go to work and afternoon when back home, always can hear plain water sound. I drove to dealer, because drove a lot way, so they cannot hear anything, but for me, I can hear each time. It's very annoyed. Did anyone have any idea about this? Thanks.

what was included in the 30,000 mile service? Was the coolant changed? My first guess would be check if there is air in the cooling system.

Could be the clutch not disengaging fully. When you release the clutch with the engine on when does the clutch start to engage?

immediately it starts to engage..i have this problem only with the 1st gear no problem with any one of them.Like if I shift to 2nd gear initially and shift to first gear,it does not have any problem.
