You could have a p0442 code for evap leak which the manual would tell you is from a loose gas cap. But a bad evap canister can also make this code come on. So it's sometimes your best bet to take to dealer and not some local mechanic that doesn't know a thing about Hyundai cars. Replying to: jlindh (Mar 26, 2009 6:19 pm) The engine codes will tell you which System/Circuit the problem is in, but there is no computer on earth (as of YET ) that will tell you exactly which part in a car is defective.   Using the info about the identity of the circuit/system, either a competent independent shop or a dealer has to "do the diagnosis", analyzing each part *within* that system/circuit, and by measuring values, signals, voltages, or lack therefore, come to his/her best conclusion as to what to replace.   Sometimes factory TSBs, which are available to the independents, can make this job easier.   The only "edge" the dealer might have is more experience with a certain model, especially if the independent works on different makes of cars.   Also, in some instances, the dealer's scanning equipment will do a "deeper scan" than the equipment available to the independent.   The Less Windy Version of My Comments?   "A diagnostic machine is only as good as the person reading it" Replies to this message: jlindh (Mar 27, 2009 7:57 am) Mr_Shiftright (Mar 27, 2009 8:05 am)

I recently purchased a 2005 Hyundai Sonata. In the morning I warm the car and then turn the heat on. During my commute thru the streets when I begin to slow down at a light the car would stall.This happened about three different days within a week over about two weeks. I took it to the dealer and they checked it out. Of course, nothing happened. I even had someone else drive it to see if they had my same experience, but of course they didn't. This morning, I let the car warm and didn't turn the heat on until I was on the highway as opposed to the city streets. The car did not stall once. Replying to: candy215 (Mar 27, 2009 5:37 am) Stalling is either an ignition issue or a fuel system issue. I would start with getting a bottle of Chevron TECHRON fuel system / injector cleaner and running a tankful of gas thru the car. TECHRON is not the cheap $2 STP stuff, it's real cleaner and is more like $8-9, and can be bought at Walmart.   RE the ignition, depending on how many miles could your spark plugs need a change? Rather unlikely but something the dealer might recommend.

For instance, let's look at code po442, "P0442 is an Evaporative Emission Control System Leak (a small leak) ("EVAP")".   Where does that answer imply a specific part? Replying to: jlindh (Mar 27, 2009 7:57 am) That code doesn't imply it, you're right, but some codes definitely do imply a specific part, and this misleads some people. You know better, I know better, but there are a helluva lot of people replacing 02 sensors for no good reason.

Does anyone know if there is some way to adjust the track on a 09 Sonata driver's seat to allow it to go back further than the stock set up?
