Replying to: backy (Jul 06, 2008 1:58 pm) I haven't purchased the vehicle. The tech cleared the error and it did not come back on. You are correct that the cap could have been the problem. I'm wondering if anyone has had EVAP error problems with newer Sonata's? When my 1999 Camry had an EVAP error earlier this year, poorly tightened gas cap was one of the possibilities. In that case, it turned out I needed a new charcoal canister and one vacuum control valve for $600. |

For a while there was this rattle noise coming from the backseats of my 07 Sonata GLS if the car hit any medium to hard bumps in the road. It sounded like loose/rubbing plastic. A couple of days ago I searched for the sources and I think I figured it out. There are four areas to look if anyone has smilar problems: (1) The lock knobs behind the seatbacks. Mine were loose, so I fitted several folds of thick paper underneath. (2) The backseats had a zipper (for the cover) that was a bit too long. The metal end of it was dangling, occasionally hitting the back of the seats. I tucked it away tight. (3) There is the plastic molds (black) running along and behind the backseats. If tabbed, mine would produce rubbing sound with the metal sheet of the trunk. Tightened it some. (4) (Not sure) The cupholder lid might produced some rattle, secured it with a rubber band. The noise seems to have gone, though I am not sure which of the four made the most rattle. Could find out by undoing the fixes, but not gonna. Oh, while search for rattle casues on the web, I ran across this for rattles from the glove box area. Hope this helps you solve the annoying noises. http://www.hyundai-forums.com/index.php?showtopic=17330&hl=rattle |

I have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata which I love. The previous owner had the 30K checkup, and I did the 60K checkup - but - Hyundai said spark plugs are not part of the 60K checkup. I'm now approaching 70K, am I pushing it? Also, I'm not sure if it's always been this way, but my girlfriend brought it to my attention, and now it's all I can think about. When I start the car (the first time of the day only - or if the car has been resting for SEVERAL hours only) with the A/C already in the on position (A/C on level 1 or higher) we hear a weird noise in the cabin and outside. It's not as subtle as the decrease/increase in sound when turning the A/C on or off while driving or in park. Like I said, it only does this the first time of the day, or after a long rest, and then the weird sound which seems to come from the passenger side) does it's chattering for about 10 seconds. I've had squeaky brakes since I bought the car at 49K miles. I've taken it to several different places who ALL told me "it's fine, just dirty." Well even after they "cleaned" them, no results. I'm going to have a non-Hyundai mechanic install OEM Hyundai brake pads within the next 2 weeks. I don't know if I made it worse though because I heard if you drove to 50mph then came to a complete stop, it would remove excess brake dust/dirt. So...I did this several times over the last 6 months. Now I',m hearing from friends this could potentially warp my rotors. What else...so other than the spark plugs, is there anything I need to check on for being near 70K miles on a 2003 Sonata? I'm absolutely obsessed with my car, but it sucks the big one because I know nothing about cars, how to repair/maintain, so I'm always at others mercy. I hate it. If I had the know how, I'd be inspecting her right now making sure absolutely every possible thing was working great, and clean. Edit: OK just looked over owners manual. What the hell is a fuel filter? I doubt this was changed if my dealer went to the extent of saying spark plugs weren't standard with their 60K mile tuneup. I love my car but I hate not knowing.

Hello all. I have this irritating squeaking sound coming from my glove box, esp. when it's in drive but I'm idling at a stoplight... comes back when I hit anything but very smooth road. If I push on the front of the glove box, it stops. It's like the glove box won't close all the way anymore or something (although it looks closed and doesn't come open). What could it be? Can something be tightened or something to make it stop? Thanks for any advice to fix this annoying problem.

Replying to: bakesalee (Jul 10, 2008 3:48 pm) that said.. if a mechanic misses something on a check up and your car breaks down because of it, there's a good chance it will bite him in the butt, so if they didnt do it it was because they were stupid or it didnt need to be done yet. the spark plugs and wires in your sonata are chosen for their ability to last a long, long time (usually) the reason is because sonatas are a complete pain in the ass to change the back three plugs on (on v6's anyway, i've never played with the other engines) k the strange noise could be a few things.. but most likely it has something to do with your belt or ac pump pulley, thats something you want to have a mechanic check since if the belt breaks then you will be stranded (ac pump pulley freezing up will also break the belt) the break thing is probably cheap pads, on good pads a good clean will do wonders, but if you drive through dirt a lot it doesnt help much. take my little brothers mustang and my moms sonata, hers never makes a sqeak (spell check lol), but his practically screams. it stops when we (i) clean it, but as soon as he drives up our dirt driveway it comes back. but then again i put cheapo checker pads on it lol you should run the fuel filter till your car stops. other than it being punctured straight through by someone, it will not hurt your car. if your really going to be nitpicky about it, just take it to the local lube shop and tell them that you want it changed.. the new filter should tell you how long to use it. btw a fuel filter helps to filter water out of your fuel, whereas theres another filter on the bottom of your pump that filters dirt and that stuff hope that helped.. i prolly wont be getting back on this forum i was just looking for the sonata drive cycle and saw your question and figuered i should answer so good luck! |

I have a 2006 Sonata with 18000 miles on it...in 32 months I have had three problems First one was ABS module that was malfunctioning (that I have heard from many ppl in the forums) and went on again the second time but this time it was the brake switch that needed adjustment for which i was charged. last week, I took my car to the dealership because the steering was squeaking and they told it was the clock spring that needs replacing...has anyone else had this problem with the Sonata? |
