Wow, even for a lot of city driving, 18,600 is very soon to need rear brakes and only on one side. Is there something else at play here?

I am having a similar problem. The trunk does not actually pop open, but the trunk open light does come on intermitantly.

Car has 119,00 miles Automatic. I was driving down the Hwy 70mph using the cruise control when it shifted from D to 3rd gear. It stayed that way until I pulled over and turned off the car. I re-started the car about 5 minutes later and everything was fine. Drove 30 miles 70mph without a problem. The next day I drove about 5 miles 50mph and it did it again. "any ideas"

Thanks
Chris

Your owners manual states the I4 takes 4.5 qts with a filter change.

Hard to say without being in the car and experiencing the exact behavior. Could be many things. Possibly, if your trans is so equipped, it could be a temperature sensor malfunction which tell the computer that the car is cold when in fact it is at operating temperature. Conversely, there may be a transmission fluid temperature sensor giving a false reading of trans fluid being too hot, sending the transmission into a default mode to protect it. Worst case scenarios would be something wrong with the torque converter lock up. I'd suggest seeing if any trouble codes are present in the computer, also checking your transmission fluid level.

I tried but cannot ignore this "hypothetical" question. The driver of this hypothetical car clearly ignored first some "funny" actions or noises or both by the vehicle then a critical warning light and STILL desides to drive just a "little further" and in doing so probably incurred some potentially expensive to repair damage. Now, this hypothetical driver wants to know if the dealer can access proof of the stupidity in play here in order to deny warranty repairs. If that proof of stupidity can be accessed via the engine management computer and its codes how can this information be erased.. Do I have this right?? Oh, the "hypothetical" needs to pay for any repairs alright and instead of asking everyone here if and how you...oops, the "hypothetical" driver can evade paying for their stupidity there should be a lesson learned and that lesson is this: if you ignore not only one, but two or more signs there is something wrong in a major way and continue to merrily motor along until oil spews forth from newly opened fissures in your engine block don't expect someone else (the manufacturer) to bail you out when it is time to pay the piper.

If you'll check the boards, you'll find that Honda Accords and Acura TLs in the 2002 range had this same problem, with some catastrophic results sometimes. Honda has a "quiet" replacement deal going out there for those so affected. It's a dead bang sure thing Hyundai has no such program. But I think your transmission is toast. I'd dump the car.

My friend with a 01 Elantra had the same exact problem and it turned out to be a inexpensive sensor. I believe it was the crank sensor that lost contact with the computer and put trans into limp home mode. I think it happen at around the 100,000 mark also. Hope this helps good luck.

Can someone with a 2009 Sonata check your owner's manual and post what the frequency of the AT fluid change and radiator change is on the severe maintenance schedule?

Thanks.

Engine light on, EVAP problem, new 2009 Sonata by geaham

Test drove a new 2009 Sonata GLS V6 black exterior, with 11 miles on it. It has been at the dealship for at least the last 8 weeks, maybe longer. The check engine light was on during the test drive. (The drive was fine with no noticable problems.) Afterwards, salesman and I took it to the repair bay where the mechanic read the error code. It was the EVAP system. I'm not an expert but I know that has to do with the exhaust system. The mechanic said it was do to setting out in the hot sun. I didn't know enough about the system to ask any questions. Where I work, the car will be sitting in the hot sun all day. Does anyone know if the EVAP error is something that won't occur if the car is driven regularly? My fear is that during the summer this error will constantly be occuring.
