Please read my post #297 under Sonata CARE and MAINTENANCE before you spend big money on a factory cabin air filter.

Sounds like you are creative with your hands. Wonderful!

Which size(eg 20X20, 20X25, etc) air filter and brand/type did you buy at HDP?

Did you buy one of the more expensive brands such as Filtrete from 3M for $16?

I believe that the "el cheapo" filters for under $1 would work also but with lower air cleaning performance. The "el cheapo" would work out to 25cents each!!!

How specific is information stored in a car's computer? by budh

Hypothetically, let's say a sedan of Japanese or South Korean origin about 4 to 5 years old starts acting "funny" but continues to be driven, and then a warning light such as an oil pressure or high coolant temperature illuminates. And the car is driven "a little farther" before being stopped. Can the car's computer be accessed afterward by the dealer and determine that the car was driven 10 miles after a warning light came in instead of a fraction of a mile? And if so, how would one clear out that type of information from the car so the information cannot be used to prove a manufacturer's allegation that the car was driven several miles with an important warning light illuminated continuously for many minutes in order to avoid paying on a bumper to bumper warranty repair for major work on this car?

How much oil by msmb

I have a 2007 Sonata which i recently bought new in January (well it is oficially used but it only had 24 miles on it when i bought it from a dealer; and interesting but a different story). I hm just doing my second oil change on it; have been doing my own oil chages on my Hondas and toyotas for 30+ years. On my Sonata (4cyl., standard trans), I finfished replacing filter and oil and added 3.78 liters of Castrol 5W-20. But it did not read "full," read just at the "L" on the dip stick. Is it the case that this car takes 4.5 quarts? I have never used more than the 3.78 liter or 4quart copntainers.

Unfortunately the brakes seem to have been the problem, rear left only, and only 18,600 miles!! rear brakes. That's what irks me the most. Had it been the front I wouldn't have thought twice. The mileage is probably about 2:1 city. Apparently the noise is the car's 'driver notification system' that the breaks need to be replaced so if you hear it... Need to check the owners manual but I seem to recall reading something about a chirping noise that starts when the breaks need to be replaced.
The rotors were none the worse so I left them alone for the time being.

Wow, even for a lot of city driving, 18,600 is very soon to need rear brakes and only on one side. Is there something else at play here?

I am having a similar problem. The trunk does not actually pop open, but the trunk open light does come on intermitantly.

Car has 119,00 miles Automatic. I was driving down the Hwy 70mph using the cruise control when it shifted from D to 3rd gear. It stayed that way until I pulled over and turned off the car. I re-started the car about 5 minutes later and everything was fine. Drove 30 miles 70mph without a problem. The next day I drove about 5 miles 50mph and it did it again. "any ideas"

Thanks
Chris

Your owners manual states the I4 takes 4.5 qts with a filter change.

Hard to say without being in the car and experiencing the exact behavior. Could be many things. Possibly, if your trans is so equipped, it could be a temperature sensor malfunction which tell the computer that the car is cold when in fact it is at operating temperature. Conversely, there may be a transmission fluid temperature sensor giving a false reading of trans fluid being too hot, sending the transmission into a default mode to protect it. Worst case scenarios would be something wrong with the torque converter lock up. I'd suggest seeing if any trouble codes are present in the computer, also checking your transmission fluid level.
