I have a 2000 Sonota . Approximately 4 years ago the paint on my hood (near the front) started to bubble and rust. And it was not due to any exterior paint surface chipping. It turned out that the seams along the bottom side of the hood allowed water to enter and be captured. The rusting is more prominent Snow Belt / New England regions where salt is used to melt the ice/snow during the winter months. I had my local Hyundai service manager take a look at the rusting and asked him to communicate with the District Parts and Service Manager (D.P.S.M) requesting Hyundai to replace my hood regardless of my expired warranty. I also took some close up digital photos and sent to the Service manager who in turn sent them to the DPSM. As a result, I received a new hood free of charge. It’s now 4 years later and I have the same problem. Here I go again… Wish me luck trying to get a second replacement hood. Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do about it? Regards, Carl

First posted this in 2007-07 thread, maybe it belongs here ? Before I take my 07 GLS with 18.400 mi for a spin with a service tech who will probably just shrug...I've just recently started to hear a squeek on the right side, can't quite discern whether it's from the front or back wheels. It's intermittent when driving and it seems that I can sometimes get it started when I turn the steering wheel to the left, or maybe it's the right! I thought perhaps a caliper ?? but it seems to brake ok, and the heat from the brakes should burn up any residual water from washing the wheels, wouldn't think a bearing. And nothing seems to have come off underneath or in the wheel well. I know that it's all kinda wague but has anyone experienced this ? thanks. |

| I"m on my 5th Arm rest - window control panel because of peeling. This is the last one I will receive free. It's a 2007 with 13,000 miles on it. I live in FL. On weekends I drive 3 miles to the beach with sun tan lotion on. Service guy says it is the suntan lotion that is causing the cracking and peeling. Never happened in any other car I've driven. I've tried towels, plastic etc...to cover the arm rest. No luck. Anybody ever heard of this? | |

Replying to: tntbaker (May 05, 2008 9:57 am) The following post is looooooooong overdue I was successful in having my 2000 Hyundai GLS v6 Sonata sub-frame replaced by Hyundai at no charged to me. I had over 100K mile and no extended warrantee. I called Hyundai Motors of America (Cust.Serv 800-633-5151) and requested a case number be opened for future reference (#3219606) and explained my subframe rust complaint. I also asked for a fax number so I could send of my written complaint. I then requested my local Hyundai service manager to contact the Hyundai District Parts and Service Manager (D.P.S.M) and request an appointment for him to inspect my sub-frame and communicate my complaint that this is a defect and should be replaced at no charge to me. Again, I provided written documentation for the service manager to give to the district manager as they rarely interact with the customers, just the dealers service dept. In any event, two days later my service manager called and said he convinced the district manager to cover the expense. Overall, they needed my car for 4 days. One day to remove the old sub-frame and perform an inventory of parts to order (when you take apart rusted parts, connected parts reveal the need for replacement as well). Two days for the parts to arrive and the third day to make the repair. Below are some Internet websites and search keywords I found and used: Under www.edmonds.com forums I used keywords: ‘Sonata subframe’ The Following is the Hyundai Motors USA ‘How to contact them’ webpage http://www.hyundaiusa.com/global/contactus/main.aspx For the hyundaiforum.com I used keywords: ’sonata engine cradle rust’ http://www.hyundaiforum.com/m_5119/mpage_3/key_/tm.htm Google search keywords used: ‘2000 Hyundai sonata complaints defects’ For the following, use Keywords: 'Hyundai cradle rust', 'sonata subframe rust', 'XG350 rust' http://www.allworldauto.com/comments/hyundai_sonata_gls_comments_and_complaints_- - - 25-34069-1.html http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/hyundai.htm http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX/.ef04005/?14 http://www.hyundai-forums.com/t19565-2001-subframe-rust.htm http://www.allworldauto.com/comments/hyundai_sonata_comments_and_complaints_25-1- - - 55-1.html I’d like to thank Tom B. for sharing his experiences with the same problem: (Email address removed per Forum Rules) I hope this information helps those of you with the same problem. I have an ongoing problem with mice getting into the cabin air filter (behind the glove compartment) of my 2006 Sonata. If I could find the outside air intake and put a metal screen on it, I'm quite sure the problem would end. Can anyone tell me where it is and perhaps what it looks like. My dealer mechanics are no help. Hey, if you want a hairy experience, try driving down the road at 60 or 70 and having a mouse come up by the end of the wiper and stare at you through the windshield!!!
