| We are looking at 2002 and 2001 Conversion Vans-- Fords mostly-- and I am at a loss as to what kind of price we can get! Are there sources somewhere that tell this? It seems like you can get good pricing info on everything but conversion vans. Help!! We are lost! | |

I moved and my computer decided to go on holiday, so I can't put my finger on the "good" stuff. Try a board search for "conversion" and you should find one or two boards with posts that may help. Steve Host Vans |

I purchased a '00 T & C Limited in April 2000 with the .09% for 60 months, from a local dealer here in MT, thinking it was important to keep money in the local economy... in August 2000 the brakes were pulsating I took it in to the dealer I bought it from and they determined the rotors needed to be replaced (at four months new), the day I took the van in for rotor replacement I flew out of state for a meeting; upon my return I discovered the car had fallen off a lift and went out of control in the service center as the mechanic working on the vehicle FORGOT to bleed the air out of the brake lines. The van hit a wall damaging the passenger side rear quarter panel, bounced off the wall and ripped a front door off a car on another lift damaging the drivers side quarter panel, and bumper and somehow the rear window was shattered and glass was all over the interior up to the gas pedal. I was devastated when I found out what had happened; this was the first new car I had ever owned, I sold an 11 year old Saab to get this van. I loved the van prior to it being destroyed. The owner of the dealership told me upon repair the car would be 100% - I told him I did not want it back. Hence, a 14 month battle in which I came out the loser. I attempted many times to get Chrysler involved they said they couldn't do anything as the dealer was independent and they could not demand anything to be done. The only thing Chrysler did was call the owner and ask if he felt he was doing everything he could for me and he said he was and that his insurance company was involved. The owner did offer me a 2001 if I were to write him a check for $4,000 to get into a new vehicle I was also told I would not be able to keep the fantastic interest rate that I currently had I would have to refinance at whatever the current rate was. Needless to say I was furious and refused that offer. Now months later I have rental bills I am still responsible for, a van with diminished value, a van that I am still paying a "NEW" van payment on a vehicle that has been severely compromised by a "professional Chrysler mechanic" while it was in for warranty repairs. This has been an incredible nightmare with no one offering to help, I would have been better off keeping my old car. My thinking on getting something new was it was under warranty I wouldn't have many issues with a new vehicle, all I have had is issues!! Everyone I talk with says they wouldn't want it back and now I will have to drive it until it takes it's last breath as I can't imagine anyone wanting to pay me what I owe on it and by law if someone asks me if it was wrecked, I will have to disclose that to them. I suppose I am a bit stubborn I believe what's right is right and that as a customer of the dealership they would take care of me. Evidently it's all about big business and they don't care about their customers - I am completely disgusted with the dealership and even more so with DiamlerChrysler for not making this dealership stand up and do the right thing! I wasn't asking for more than what I had, I even sent a copy of the demand to the Chrysler Zone Office in Portland and was told that my demand was reasonable and similar to what they would require if they had any jurisdiction over the dealership. I'm curious if anyone has ever had a similar situation and any possible way of dealing with DaimlerChrysler. I'm not sure if I can post pictures of the van or not but I would like to please advise. Thanks |

Wow, what a story. I think I would have tried to find a lawyer who'd work on a contingency. Your consumer reporter at the local paper or TV show might want to go to bat for you too. You can post pictures here (the Chrysler Town and Country LX/LXi/Limited discussion is probably the best place to post one) - please check the Town Hall Help link on the upper left of this page for details. Good luck. Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards |

Hey, I've got a 1996 Dodge Caravan, 2.4L 4cyl that's missing at low speed when a load is placed upon the engine (ie, starting to climb a hill, freeway on ramp, etc). At 55k I started noticing oil in the coolant reservoir. I took it to a local Dodge dealer's service dept at 65k. They said I had a cracked head gasket. I asked Service Manager what causes head gasket failure, he replied, "Engine over heating." I asked if there was any evidence of that, he said, "No." They pulled the head off, replaced the head gasket and timing belt while they were in there ($700 cha-ching!). About 1 month later the van started missing. As I said it happens "mostly" at low speed, ~35mph, but I think I can feel an occasional miss at hi way speed. Sometimes it misses so bad I get a check engine lite, code 43, missing cylinder, per the 5 on/5 off key method and my trusty Haynes. This code has since been verified by a shop's computer and specifically occurs on cylinder #3 (read on...) I furiously took it back to the dealership certain they'd done something to cause the missing. They said a new set of plugs/cables ($200) would fix the problem and of course they couldn't have possibly caused the problem. I removed/replaced the plugs/cables with after market cables and AC/Delco plugs. The van ran great for about 4 months then slowly, slowly started missing more and more until it finally lit the check engine lite. I rem/rep the cables, again, and same thing. Van ran great for about 4 months then started missing worse and worse until, you guessed it, the check engine lite came on. I thought maybe the after market cables were no good so I splurged for a set of OEMs from the dealer. Same thing, ran great for about 4 months then the missing got so bad that the check engine lite lit. I took van to local, and recommended, repair shop. He put the analyzer on it and verified the missing, he pulled code 43, missing on cylinder #3. He even drove it and noted the problem clearly. He installed a set of Champion plugs and van ran great. About 4 months later I'm looking at that %#$*! check engine lite again. All the plugs look fine, they're not excessively fouled (I've seen worse run better). There's no more oil in the cooling system. I found and cleaned some green corrosion on #3 terminal on the ignition coil pack. It ran better for about 1 week and is, as I type, now missing, sometimes a little, sometimes severely. No check engine lite as of yet, though. Something Weird: I thought you had to clear a check engine lite with an analyzer or by removing the battery cables ("cold booting the van"). The last 2 times the lite has come on it has gone off after a week. Is my van's computer 'intelligent'? Why would the lite go off on its own? I haven't installed the coil pack yet, it cost $80 for after market and I want to ohm out it and the installed pack to see if there's any variation. Help! Help! Help! Help! Help! Help! Help! Any and A*L*L* suggestions will be greatly appreciated. H. M. |

Heh, I'm much better today. Got my cable modem turned on I was going to send you to a Caravan discussion, but all the pre-01 discussions are archived it seems. Hopefully someone will see the topic you started and help you out. Welcome! Steve Host SUVs, Vans and Aftermarket & Accessories Message Boards |

Hello to everone in the Town Hall. I am hoping to receive some advice on my 2002 Venture which has a nasty habit of stalling on railroad tracks. I started a new discussion but am unsure if I did it correctly. Please help a rookie. |

Not good - I got stuck on a railroad track once. Scary! I think the owners are more likely to see your question if you ask it in the existing Chevy Venture or perhaps the GM's triplets: Venture, Silhouette, and Montana discussions. You created your topic fine - next time, just put at title in the space provided, and then go to the Post Message box to "seed" the discussion with your first post. Welcome to Town Hall.
