Olds Sillouette 2000 GLS by cconley1295

We purchased our van in May of 2000 and have had several concerns. It is going to be out of warranty soon (36,000) and I would appreciate it if others would report problems they have had so that I can have them checked out. We have had transmission problems. The Engine light has come on several times-each a different problem. And the van at times does not start right away. I have been happy with the comfort of the van but want to make sure that all is "fixed" before the warranty expires. Thanks for your input! Atlanta

Van Shopping by carolpr

We are van shopping again. We currently have a '95 Villager. It's been a great van, never any problems except mileage has become an issue (150k). We are choosing between a Windstar, Grand Caravan ES, or an Odyssey EXL. 2002 models for all three. I have been checking out this sight to get a feel for opinions on these models. Needless to say, it is all very subjective. We are now leaning towards the GC because the Windstar seems to have a worse history of reliability. I actually liked the Windstar though, but can't make that leap. I've never bought an American car, so this will be a big step. The Honda is nice except for it can't be converted to a 5 passenger with extra cargo space. Plus, it's rather dull in my opinion.(very subjective, as I said). The GC has many nice comfort features and versatile seating. However, that split third seat is awful and it's crash test ratings aren't as good as the other two. I think I'm ready to close my eyes and just pick one. That's my story. I'm glad this site is here. (I think)

Looking at all the different vans out there. Man there are a ton. But the Mazda MPV LX has my attention at this time. Neat features at a good price. If anyone has anything to say about them good or bad I would like to hear it.

New to Van board by 5greyhounds

I have been in Edmund's for a few years but did not pay much attention to the Vans board since my 95 Windstar was doing just fine. However, at 135k it was totaled by a pickup and I now have a 99 SE Windstar with just over 20k on it now. Much improved over my 95. Has the 4th door. MPG is a little less than my 95 (23 vs 21) but then it is 200hp vs about 155 or 160. For being 3 years old it runs well and is quiet.

Does Anyone Have A Chevy Venture? by mrollman1

My husband and I are considering a 2002 Chevy Venture Warner Bros Edition and would like some information on reliability. I would also be interested in any +/- comments on this van. We currently have a 1999 Nissan Quest, which we like, but would like to have a slightly larger van with the conveniences of Power Sliding Doors, etc. Any comments would be welcomed.

Welcome nvanpelt - have fun shopping

afreespirit10 - the Odyssey is still in great demand, so the dealers can sell them for MSRP or more, and buyers still line up for them. TMV in this case may reflect those dealers who are adding extra profit options onto their Odysseys. On the good side, they hold their resale value well.

ddjusa - in addition to the many posts to skim in the main Honda Odyssey discussion, a search will turn up others (Prices Paid, Odyssey vs. Sienna, etc.). Also take a look at the Vehicle Comparision Tool.

cconley1295 - Please ask in the Oldsmobile Silhouette discussion - owners there should be able to offer some suggestions.

carolpr - Guess you need to play with that comparison tool linked above .

jscan713 - The MPV owners are very loyal to the van. Check out the MY2000+ Mazda MPV discussion (they'll point you to the "problems" discussion, maybe <g>).

5greyhounds - I've seen you around the boards; thanks for participating in Town Hall.

mrollman1 - Here's the link to the Chevy Venture board. Can't wait till the new Quest rolls off the new assembly line for the 2003 model, eh?

Welcome again (did we miss anyone?).

MPV vs. Honda by templeton12

I have found the 2001 Mazda MPV for $5000 under MSRP price and the 2002 Honda LX for $24,000 (660 under MSRP.) Getting a similarly equipped MPV will run about 20,000. I know the Honda is bigger and has a bigger engine, but I don't think that alone is worth quite $4000. Anyone have any thoughts about whether the Honda is worth the extra $4000. I am especially interested in repair time/cost.

Looks like you found the MPV discussion - you may want to lurk in the MPV and Odyssey "problems" discussions too for clues. 4 grand is a lot of money....
