Could be everyone was out celebrating St. Patrick's Day? Since this is a message board (as opposed to a chat room, replies sometimes take a little while, so keep checking back. You can also try posting your message here to see if someone answers you sooner:

Hi everybody
I'm Dag, currently living in Bodoe, North Norway. I have been the happy, and sometimes not so happy owner of a 92 model Astro AWD since 1996. My wife and our 3 kids love the space and comfort of this 7-seater vehicle.
However, age takes its toll, which means that there are things that need to be mended (quite a few things, actually). I have started out with a climate control problem posted in that forum on here.

Another newbie to the vans Forums, long-time Edmunds member though. You guys may recognize me from the Subaru threads, or the Miata ones.

Got an 07 Sienna LE. Had to wait for the new 3.5l engine, which is a gem.

Hi. I'm new to the boards and I'd like to get some info comparing the two minivans Odyssey & Sienna. My main issue is that I feel the AWD is important, but anyone at Honda has a reason for why it's not necessary and they are better. Don't know which board would be best for asking such questions. Thanks for the help!

If you want AWD, get AWD. Why compromise when you don't have to?

The only one left making AWD vans is Toyota. You could also get a used Grand Caravan, though.

The AWD Sienna is nice because it comes well equipped from the get-go. Even a base LE AWD model has stability control and 17" alloys, one power door, 6CD, etc.

The catch? You cannot get the 8 passenger model with AWD. Also, AWD forces you into run-flat tires, because the driveshaft that goes to the rear axle goes right through where the spare would have been.

Novice introduction and seeking advice on buying a minivan by sandsmom

Hi! I'm glad I stumbled on this forum. A recent addition to the family has caused us to think about getting a minivan.

We've always bought used import cars (Toyota, Mazda, Hundai) and so you can imagine our reluctance at looking at American/new cars. We are currently considering the Honda Ody, Sienna and the Entourage. 2005+ models.

Any suggestions, thoughts and advice would be gladly welcomed.

I look forward to reading the other posts as well.

Cheers,
sherylann

First of all, welcome to Edmunds CarSpace.

I think you're looking at some nice alternatives.

The current Sienna came out in MY2004 (MY=model year). For 2007, it got a bigger engine, 3.5l. I have an 07 and recommend it highly.

The Ody is also a good choice. Drive them, the Sienna is a bit quieter and softer, while the Ody handles a bit better. I think you'll develop a preference right away. We opted for the quiet ride of the Toyota, our own preference.

You get a lot of value with the Entourage, just make sure you get a good price and that you like it, because resale values are not strong. Otherwise they offer good bang for the buck.

There are minivan threads to discuss more specifics, just be ready to hear every opinion that may come. The 2008 Minivan discussion, for instance, has been hotly debated recently.

Hello there,

I've been reading your insightful posts on this forum with a lot of interest and so we thought we'd take the liberty of reaching out to you for your opinion.

Hi, congrats on the new van and hope you are enjoying it.

We live in Lake Zurich, IL and just got a quote from a dealer for a 2007 Honda Ody EX-L with DVD - slate green with olive interior. He's asking for 27,900 (cash) or 30,499 with 3.9% financing.

For a 2008 Toyota Sienna LE-8 psngr with pkgs FE, AL, QF, CF and RL, silver exterior, for $25,160 plus $58.48 documentation fee, sales tax, registration fee of $143 and county fee of $15. Based on what I've read, this is a pretty good price although the invoice value is $24,865. Your thoughts on the price and this vs. the 07 Ody mentioned above? We intend asking them for the price of an 08 Sienna model with the UL pkg in addition to the pkgs quoted to do an apple-to-apple comparison with the 2007 Ody.

As you mentioned in one of your posts, this is not a good time to get an 08 Sienna, hence, the trepidation even though the price seems good.

My questions:
1. Is that a good price for the 2007 Ody? Edmunds lists it at $29,190 with a DVD system.
2. Your thoughts on the price for the 2008 Sienna.
3. How does the 2008 Sienna price compare to the 07 Ody mentioned above? We intend asking them for the price of an 08 Sienna model with the UL pkg in addition to the pkgs quoted to do an apple-to-apple comparison with the 2007 Ody.
4. If we get the same pricing for the 07 Ody and the 08 Sienna (Ody - EX-L with DVD and Sienna - LE with pkgs - FE, QF, RL, UL and CF, and if we like the drives for both cars, which would be your recommendation?
5. Lastly,in one of your posts, you mentioned you got an aftermarket dvd system. How much is something like that and what would be the cost (incl. install)?

I hope this is not much of a bother - we would really value your input!

Cheers,

Sherylann
