All Wheel Drive by joyannk

We are starting our search for our first minivan purchase. We have a steep driveway and live in Philadelphia area so we get a few major storms a year. How important is having AWD and does it function as well as 4 whhel drive suvh as in a SUV. Right now I am only aware of the Buick Terrazza and Toyota Sienna as having AWD in Minivans. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Joyannk,

I think Chyrsler still makes an optional AWD minivan too. Try the Minivan Shopping discussion for advice.

And welcome!

Help shopping for used minivan by mjlong30

Hello,

We are new to the minivan world, but are tired of crawling in the backseat of our two door 99 honda civic hatchback to get our baby girl out of her carseat. Not to mention there is little space for all her gear when we travel!

We can't really afford a new minivan, so we are going to be shopping for used. Doesn't need to be fancy, just decently made and reliable. And my dh wants cruise, but it seems like that's pretty standard on most.

What's going to give us the most bang for our buck? I think we will probably be shooting for something 2001-2003.

We are open to import or American. We have a 93 saturn SL2, and while compared to our honda it is not quite as refined, it has been a reliable car and we are satisfied with it.

I am looking for information on a front hitch for a 1997 Town and Country. I've got an idea for a hitch extention that will allow me to carry a long load on the roof. I want to carry a 26 foot sailboat mast. Does anyone know how/where to look for the front hitch unit?

Thanks
Greg

You might check with other owners in our Chrysler Town and Country EX/LX/LXi/Limited discussion.

Howdy, I am new to the whole minivan world. Never wanted one; never thought I'd need one. But now that I am a mother of three, two still in diapers and car seats, it becomes increasingly obvious to me that I need the space and kid friendly comforts that minivan's provide. My biggest problem is which one! EVERYONE shouts the praises of the HONDA but I had heard it had some transmission problems. Furthermore, I don't like seeing myself coming and going if you know what I mean. Is it true; is the HONDA Odyssey the way to go? Is the NISSAN Quest that even comparable?

I never did stop in to introduce myself. I am a married mother of 4 and have owned 3 minivans. Our first was a 96 Dodge Grand Caravan and nothing but trouble. We swore we would never own another Dodge - we also had a 92 Shadow a long time ago that looked nice but had it's share of major problems at only 60,000 miles. Our second minivan was a 2000 Pontiac Montana - we LOVED it but couldn't afford the payments when my husband lost his job. We drove around for 6 months in a 96 Mercury Sable and 91 Chevy Lumina and it was awful squeezing 6 people into those cars! We found an affordable 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan SE that has only seen one owner and seems to run great for 113,000 miles. But with our history of Dodge trouble I think we're going to hang around here in case any problems arise.
