#3569 of 4451 2011 Elantra GLS with preffered equipment pkg
Apr 08, 2011 (9:53 pm)
We are going to pick up our new Elantra tomorrow morning. Ours is red allure, GLS, preffered pkg, no navigation, floor mats, and wheel locks. Bought from Freeman Hyundai in Irving, this is our 3rd purchase from the salesperson. Negotiated price is $18,045 +TTL, so only $450 off sticker price, but we were offered $1500 more for our old trade (2000 Camry LE w 90k miles) than the next closest trade offer. That made it an easy choice. I figured we would end up buying at Freeman again anyway as it has always been laid back and easy doing business there.
We shopped all the competition and looked at Civics, Corollas, and Sentras. None of those 3 could compare for us. The standard equipment in the Elantra flat out blows away the competition. By the time you add in alloy wheels, blue tooth and steering wheel audio, etc, the others cost almost as much after discounts and that is for their outdated designs that are about to be replaced.
This will be our 3rd Hyundai vehicle, still have our 2009 Sonata GLS with 70k miles and it runs like a champ. Very happy with Hyundai.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a red allure, preferred package for just a little over $18K. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this car. I had bought a 2010 Elantra in October, the transmission went, so I was never fully comfortable with the car after that. I was able to work out a sweet deal at the same dealership in Williamsburg, VA.
I can't stop driving my car!

I rarely buy a car brand new. But considering a new elantra this time.
I was looking at a elantra 2010 GLS PZEV and saw a deal of 14K (not OTD) in the California from a local dealer.
Is this a good deal ?
If I were to stick to buying used cars, how much would be a good value for a lightly used elantra from a private party.
Any thoughts ? Thanks.

Yeah, I created a post here about it. I got the car October 9th, and 1800 miles later, the tranny went. And yes, it was covered under warranty of course, but I never felt entirely comfortable after that.

So you feel more comfortable about the 2011 Elantra and its all-new-for-2011 6-speed automatic?
Tranny blowouts are pretty rare on new cars. Good luck on your new baby. We'll hope that Hyundai sweated the details on the new automatic.
#3575 of 4451 Elantra Limited - "Supply and Demand"

I went into the local Hyundai dealership yesterday and test drove the Limited. Very nice indeed! Not very nice was the kid salesperson trying to convince me that the $3,000 mark-up above MSRP was due to this thing called Supply and Demand. He was nice enough to inform me that I could probably negotiate a sales price at just above MSRP. I politely explained to the sales rep that I would probably not be purchasing a vehicle from them and thanked him for the test drive. Honestly, not worth the hassel.
I've received two other quotes at $200 above invoice but I'll have to drive down to SoCal to get that price and the exact color option combination I'm looking for. Seems to me there may be an opportunity for further negotiation on a price closer to invoice once I'm on the lot. I'm taking the strategy of looking for dealerships that have several Elantras to pick from and not like the local boys (Central Calif) with only one. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wondering what you ended up with Sarah? I placed my deposit at Randy Wise 7 weeks ago. I still don't have the car and have been handed a number of excuses on why I have nothing to for proof on it. We seemed to order a more rare limited being White Exterior with Black interior.
I've since shopped around and Crest Volvo / Hyundai are still 1K higher than my current price we locked in at Randy Wise for. But we could get a limited from Crest by the weekend.
I'm having difficulty sticking with waiting with no proof, and almost opting to pay the extra cash and be done with the hassle. Wondering what you came up with. Prices since we did the allocation request seem to have gone up greatly!

Funny timing on your question - we drove ours home last night!!! I ended up with a silver GLS from Hyundai of Jackson. This is the second Hyundai I have bought from here, and it was another good experience. I worked with Andrew Ballnik (who also took care of me with my 2007 Santa Fe when I bought it, and has helped me with other items in the meantime).
Everywhere else I tried was much higher and also with the 'we don't have any in stock'. Ann Arbor Hyundai had white, red, black, and grey when I was there last week but at $1000 higher than Hyundai of Jackson and I have loyalty towards Andrew anyway. Let me know if you'd like his #.

Oh yeah, I feel WAY more comfortable in the 2011! I still can't believe that it's mine...I feel like I'm in a real nice rental car. Maybe when I make my first payment it'll sink in that it's mine! LOL!
