Just bought a new 2008 Elantra SE, Auto Tranny, Gray with BluTooth, in Salem NH for $15K delivered. The dealer still has a bunch of new 2008 GLS, but I had to get the SE as my daughter's going to be driving it and I had to have the stabiity control for her. Anyway, took some competition from a nearby dealer to get to the $15K price (of course the losing dealer said they'd go lower, AFTER I chose to commit with the winner). Anyway, happy with the price, happy with the deal as well as the dealer I bought from... |

Looks like the 2008's are going for very good prices. My dealer in Denville, NJ said they are looking to move them all by 2/28. Around $13K for the gls before ttl, around $14K out the door. Is the traction control the only significant feature on the SE that's not on the GLS? Is it worth an extra thousand? Also, is it true that the 2009's are exactly the same as the 2008's?

Consumer Reports recommended only the SE as its car of the year in its class due to the traction control.

| thanks! This car is for my mom, who is in her 80's. She doesn't drive in the snow or ice, but I think I'd feel pretty crappy if something ever did happen that the esc or traction could have prevented. | |

CR doesn't give its top-tier recommendation to cars that don't fare well in crash tests. That test wasn't published when CR made the Elantra SE its top pick for small cars last year. More small cars have ESC standard or widely available now, and most have better crash test scores than the Elantra.

Hyundai now makes some of the most dependable cars on the market, including this one, according to the magazine's data.
