thanks. backy.

AC option is alway confusing me and dealer seemed they didn't want to explain this clear to me. my understanding is that AC is with package 1 (around $1750). But for those without package 1 (msrp 14.4K), they had AC as well, although the window stickers didn't say they had ACs. Are those ACs installed by dealer. I guess they cannot, right? The installation should be done in the factory, I assume.

anyway, I prefer a SE now. How about the price difference? about 2k more thann GLS if they are both basic, If I can have a deal around 13K+TTL, should I go for it?

I don't think you'll find anyone willing to part with an SE for $13k, but I applaud you for trying. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

try this link first. It has all the styles listed for the Hyundai 2008 Elantra

http://seatcovers.net/hyundai-seat-covers.html

If it does not work you can go to www.seatcovers.net and do a search for your year/car. My husband got expensive ones, they repell even water. We actually called and spoke to someone and you can also have their complete list of prices for all the covers they make for the Hyundai Elantra mailed to you to give you an idea. My husband paid $770 for 2 complete back seat covers and 2 complete front seat covers, and arm rest cover, and paid for 4 head rests and since the Elantra has 3 in the back the guy threw the 3rd in free when they are normally $25 each for the style my husband picked out. You don't have to get front and back. My husband did because he is an OTR truckdriver and sometimes throws his things in the backseat. I already had to take turtle wax oxi-cleaner to his one front seat as we have the cloth seats and he spilled soda on his new seat. The seat covers he bought are supposed to actually if you spill a liquid just let the liquid sit there. It does not sink in. And they make them with side guards that open to deploy your air bags. And my dealer said the seat covers do work on the airbags if they do deploy. They are special order and they take 2 weeks to come by UPS once you order and pay for them. They have cheaper. I didn't need these but since hubby wanted to pay for them I let him. If it had been me I would have picked out something cheaper as I am more careful than him and I would have thrown a blanket over the back seat. I hope this helps you.

I regret to say that my advice is to reset your target. I just did a nationwide search on used 2008 Elantras on cars.com (easy to do, you can do the same if you want). Interestingly it picked up at least a few new Elantras too. Some of what I found out:

* Warning: several sellers falsely advertise a car as an SE when in fact it's a GLS. There oughta be a law about that...

* Warning: several sellers post a low asking price, then say in the small print something like "This price is after a $2995 down payment and you must finance through us and there must be a full moon... etc." Others include all possible rebates in their asking price.

* The lowest legitimate price on cars.com for a used 2008 Elantra GLS anywhere in the country is $12,990 for a GLS automatic in Allen, TX with 8k miles.

* The lowest legitimate price on cars.com for a used 2008 Elantra SE anywhere in the country is $16,990 for an automatic with 8k miles in Bradenton, FL. (There are "SE"s advertised for less, but it's clear from the dealer--not stock--photos that those cars are GLSes.) So that's about $1000 under the original list price when new, but for a used car w/o the 10/100k powertrain warranty. No rebates either.

* There's one new 2008 SE stick advertised at $13,999 in Burlingame, FL after rebates. Note that's ALL rebates that are possible, including military, college grad, and loyalty. And you must finance through HMA to get that price.

So that is the picture. Maybe that $14,500 price you've got isn't so bad after all?

Is this typical for a volume Hyundai dealer? by jdev12

Towne Hyundai in NJ is offering $1700 below dealer invoice for the 2008 Elantra GLS, $1000 rebate, "destination included". Should I assume that other volume Hyundai dealers will be offering similar savings and factor this into my target price? I'm shopping for a GLS automatic with the '02 Popular Equipment package'.

In a word, no. But if you really are willing to go to Towne Hyundai to buy a car, you can print their Internet price and bring it with you for negotiating leverage. It could help.

Well, some other Hyundai dealers may be willing to match or get close to the discounts Towne offers. Stateline and Fitzmall for example. So it's worth a try. But I know that I'd have a tough time matching Towne's discount off invoice at any dealership in my area (Twin Cities). For example, the best (Internet) price I've gotten on a Sonata GLS is about $1000 more than Towne's Internet price.

You can get one for $14,000 at Suresky in Goshen, NY. All you have to do is tell them you know someone whose husband and her bought 2 cars from them for that price. They will match anything you see in a newspaper too. And all the fuel pumps are fixed according to Hyundai in the lots for sale. Recall letters are still going out from what I hear, but our fuel pumps were fixed and I haven't seen a letter.

I don't know where this dealership in is NJ, but Suresky is a good dealership and they don't jerk you around.
