I would suggest against putting any sort of seat cover on modern cars anymore.
One reason is because of the seat mounted thorax side airbags on your Elantra. If you put a seat cover, it wouldn't allow the seat airbag to deploy when it needs to. (It deploys from the side of the seat)
Another reason is that Elantra's passenger seat has a weight classification sensor in the bottom of the seat. This sensor tells the car's computer the weight of the passenger & tells the computer whether to deploy full force passenger airbag, or the reduced force airbag, or no airbag at all (if the person is a child or underweight to prevent airbag injury)

This is true and that is why these seat covers have to be custom made. They make them so the airbags WILL deploy.
We have cloth seats, not leather. And hubby ordered the ones that repell spills. And they are made for the right specifications. That is why it takes 2 weeks to get them. They sew them up as they get the orders. And I was told and assured by the guy exactly how he does the side thing for the airbags. I am pretty sure a seat cover in the front is not going to make the adult weight off for an accident. I am sure the sensors are not going to pick up a seat cover. When I place my 4 lbs purse on the seat a light comes on saying the airbag will not deploy on that side. There has to be an adult sitting there for it to deploy. And Hyundai told me we had to get custom seat covers. They said (and the dealer too) that seat covers will not harm any sensors and the Parts Dept. told us where in our town we could go, but they wanted twice as much money. We went direct with who they were going to use.

After negotiating with the internet sales manager via email, my in-laws got a 2008 GLS with popular equipment package for $16k OTD. I tried to get them down to $15.5k but they wouldn't budge. The dealership is located in western florida.

Bought an 08 Elantra SE w/ wheel locks for $14.7K total + 199 + 5 % MA state taxes. I guess I got a good deal compared to what others have been paying.
I bought mine on 31st of August.

Hello, I am the proud owner of an 2008 Apple Red Hyundai GLS. I just love her!!! This morning I did a search for seat covers and found your blog. Where did you get them custom made and how much did they cost?
Thanks in advance for the information. I STARTED OUT WITH 16815.00 PLUS ALL THOSE NASTY FEES. I THEN RECEIVED A $1500.00 REBATE AND PUT DOWN 2500.00. FINANCED 14600.00.

My dealer is in Toms River NJ, OTD without down money would have been $17K OTD. I have AT, A/C loaded with mats, cargo net and lifetime FREE oil changes. They had around 30 or so on the lot. I loved it so much I bought it in the dark.

I assume you got an auto transmission, if so, that's a very good deal.
#2739 of 4420 question about price and SE vs. GLS

I am trying to get a manual GLS without any options. The window sticker price is around $14,400. The price I wanted was $11,000 + TTL then my OTD price will be ~$12,000. Am I too aggressive on the price? Since I am not hurry to buy this car. If they won't accept my price. I would like to wait for a 2009 Elantra Touring. It is so lovely from the picture and I am willing to pay a few thousands more.
Another question.
Is there any big difference between GLS and SE? I think I saw people here like SE a lot. But I am not sure if a couple of thousands is worth it. A dealer that is 50 mile from me has 4 manual SE and I maybe get a good deal over there.

$11k may not be out of the question since not too many people want a stick with no A/C or radio (although radio would be easy to add). For example, my local dealer is all out of 2008 Elantras except for one stick that they've had for a LONG time, and that has A/C. You might find a dealer who will even advertise a stripped Elantra as a loss leader, and you could snap it up. The problem will be finding a dealer with such a car--I'll bet they are pretty rare.
Keep in mind the Touring will be quite a bit more than a stripped GLS--I am guessimating somewhere around $17.5k for a stick at least, based on the price of the 2008 SE. I doubt we'll see rebates on it or much in the way of discounts for awhile after introduction--that is typical with new models.
IMO the SE is worth the sticker price bump over the GLS. The SE has ESC (very important safety feature), traction control, alloys with bigger rubber (improves handling and braking), telescopic steering column (helps find a comfy driving position), leather wheel with audio controls, leather shifter, trip computer, and maybe some other stuff. Keep in mind it was only the SE that CR ranked their Top Pick in the class--not the GLS (although the GLS ranked pretty high too).

thanks. backy.
AC option is alway confusing me and dealer seemed they didn't want to explain this clear to me. my understanding is that AC is with package 1 (around $1750). But for those without package 1 (msrp 14.4K), they had AC as well, although the window stickers didn't say they had ACs. Are those ACs installed by dealer. I guess they cannot, right? The installation should be done in the factory, I assume.
anyway, I prefer a SE now. How about the price difference? about 2k more thann GLS if they are both basic, If I can have a deal around 13K+TTL, should I go for it?
