I know in MN sales tax is post-rebates. But other states calculate tax before rebates are deducted. The Web site for the Department of Revenue for your state should state the rules for that. Also any dealer's finance dept. would know, they do the calculation every day. 4) Hard to tell what your OTD price would be since you haven't told us what the tax, license, and other fees would be. 5) No matter how good a deal you get, there will always be someone else who gets a better one.

Replying to: backy (Apr 25, 2008 9:04 pm) Sales tax is 9.25% and I'm not sure what title/license is - my guesstimate is $300. Since TTL varies by state, I guess my real question is this: Is 14K for a brand new 2008 Elantra GLS with popular option package (no sunroof) a good deal? I thought it was until I started reading these boards. Then I was browsing the Sonata boards (my initial desire was a Sonata but changed due to price) and see that some people are getting new 2008s for 15Kish OTD. It's starting to look like this varies by state and perhaps various dealerships get better kick-backs from the manufacturer. I know I want either a Sonata or Elantra but since I'm in no hurry, I am determined to get the best deal possible. Living in Chicago seems to be a dis-advantage as far as low cost. Anyways, thanks for the info!!

I just purchased an Elantra GLS in Valley Steam, NY with automatic transmission, Popular Equipment package, mud guards, and floor mats. Out the door price after $2000 rebate was $13,060.00 plus tax and tags. |

OK I have been reading this thread with some interest. We are buying a third car because my wife can't park the truck at work with the narrow parking lanes and I now need the car because I travel alot and gas is going up. So the Elantra seems like an nice compact with a mid-size interior. Everyone is across the board with pricing. Tell me how this sounds. 2008 LE with 5-speed and the Premium Pkg. with sunroof. Sticker $ 18,265 (they had there added crap with and additional $1k, regional pricing, clean up misc. stuff and made them remove off the price sheet before we even started) I offered 15k and they countered with $15,677 (they say this is invoice) This included 2K rebate. I will need to add 5% sales and about $ 105 in fees. After seeing some posts it looks like there maybe some better deals out there. No trade and is a cash deal. Anybody know a good dealer in Southwestern PA?

j. I already did as you recommended last night, I emailed four other dealers and asked to see there best price. I asked them to give me there best price and then show the rebate. Wednesday is the last day of month, i will keep you posted. |
