Purchased '07 Elantra Today by vtelantra

I purchased an '07 Elantra today. Sticker MSRP: $16,855. We did not buy at the dealer we test drove at. Test drove a GLS with moonroof on Monday, but w/o XM. First dealer would only do $16,150 OTD. Called/e-mailed several other dealers. Ended up at a volume dealer in NH ninety minutes away. Purchased a GLS today w/preferred package (incl. XM), and mud guards, and floor mats for $14,200 OTD.

Salesman initially offered $14,857 + $299 dealer fees. We went back and forth three times, each time he getting up to speak with Sales Manager. Hope this helps.

Invoice Price by thecincykid

I've been to two different dealers now and both have offered (without me asking) to show me their invoice price. Seems kind of strange to be so open (maybe it's my general distrust of car salespeople) but I was wondering if the invoice price is just a gimmick or what? From the invoice price the MSRP was only marked up about $400 which seems odd. So on a $16,880 GLS (w/ preferred package) the invoice was around $16,400. The dealer was only willing to go down to invoice plus the rebate ($16,880 - $400 - $1000 = ~$15,000). The numbers aren't exact but $15,000 was the price I was quoted before taxes and title, etc. I see a lot of people getting their GLS's w/ preferred package a lot cheaper OTD. I'm just suspisious and wondering if anyone else had the dealer offer to show you the invoice.

Thanks,

Bruce

Good OTD price. NH doesn't have sales tax right?

NH does not have tax. When we go to register in VT we will offset the tax by the value our our Private Party sale, so tax will be nominal.

Re: invoice. Yes, we too were told about invoice. BUT 1) remember that even options have a lower invoice price, and 2) invoice is not the whole picture. Dealers often get incentives we don't see. This was a volume dealer (37 Elantras on the lot last weekend), so we made that point as I wrote on offer on scrap paper and signed my name. Using prices from other dealers can help...www.autofairhyundai.com
Click on "Specials" at the top right. Use those prices as a starting point with your dealer.

I got my wife a good deal(I think) on a black elantra SE with the black interior. We paid 15,600 OTD including taxes and fees. At Maxon in Union NJ. They are advertising a 4,000 discount on any trade in, in any condition. We traded in her 2007 Saturn S2 w/o a radio(stolen) or a rear window(broken to take the radio). She's happy with it so, I'm happy.

I bought an Elantra GLS with preferred pkg #3, floor mats and mud guards for OTD price of $14,000 in a Northern Virginia dealer. Did all negotiations via internet/email - very smooth transaction. I bought in the last week of July. There was a $1000 rebate from Hyundai.

September Rebates by thecincykid

The current $1000 rebate on the Elantra ends on 09/04. Anyone know whether it'll be upped?

I'm wondering whether I should try to buy at the end of this month or wait to see if the rebate goes up and buy then.

Automakers never release their rebate plans ahead of time, but an HMA exec did say in the July sales press release that supplies of Elantras and Accents are increasing--they have been relatively short so far this year. That could mean higher rebates for September, especially for the leftover '07s. Or maybe not. If you are a Hyundai owner, it would be interesting to see if the loyalty rebate returns--Elantra is one of the few Hyundais without one.

14,400 OTD for a car that stickers for 16,600 is NOT reasonable. I sell these every day, and you can't get a sale price (before taxes) even close to 14,400.

scan a copy of your buyer's order and post it here for us to see. This is the only way to know your TRUE price paid.
