I wanted a quote on an Elantra Limited with auto with the sun and sound package in white. They wouldn't give me a quote via email and said if I wanted to buy the car I would have to get it in another color. I emailed them back saying that I was considering another car - Honda Civic Hybrid or a Toyota Prius and they emailed me back saying "Do what you want its your money". Well duh!. I dealt with Dave Sewell the fleet manager. Anyway, its kind of ironic that that they are now such a bad dealership. But it may be due to the new management of Douglas Hyundai. It use to be Irvine Hyundai a year ago. I bought my 05 GT with every option (auto, ABS/traction controol, moonroof, mud guards, etc) for 12900 out the door back in Jan of 05. Hope you enjoy the car. Try Allen Hyundai in Laguna Niguel for service. Their prices are about half of Douglas Hyundai (both Santa Ana and Irvine locations). Happy motoring.

But dealers do not pay a "hellva lot less than that price." Let me ask you something, is making $500-$1000 too much on a $15K-25K car? Go down to your local supermarket, ask them what they paid for any item (like they will tell you anyway) and I guarantee their markup is more than most regular (non premium brands) dealerships make on 1 new car sale. Yes, do get informed and don't make a purchase on emotion, but don't get angry about a dealership trying to make money (after all, it is a business). |

Not sure if I am in the right forum or not but I just had a quick question for you Elantra owners. I am looking into getting the new 2007 model but on all the pictures I have noticed that the interior and the dashboard is beige on the bottom and grey/black on the top. Is is possible to get it all grey/black on the inside I'm not to fond on the whole two-tone thing. If anyone knows please let me know, thanks!

Replying to: nthe (Jan 29, 2007 10:32 am) Glad you agree with me. Why am I too blame for someone else trying to swindle people????? As to what you are being told by your employer, that's BS. No one and I mean NO ONE can convince me that Car Stealers only make 2% of a $25000 car. They would go out of business in a week. Please do not insult everyone's intelligence by saying they make it up in the service department. Agreed the service department makes money and I'll include the parts department, but keep in mind cars today are far better than of old. The majority of business' MUST work at a profit margin of at least 20%. Based on a $25K car that's $5000, this does not take into account all the extra monies they make. ie. Kickbacks on financing, TRADE-IN's, Add-on's and how about when they get some boob who pays MSRP?. You inferred that supermarkets make lots of money, well my family being in the food business here's a supermarket profits 101. As a general rule markup is 15 to 50% depending on the item. Take into account the following: perishable items that are discounted or thrown in the garbage. Let's not forget dented cans that have to be returned, thrown out or discounted. [Cars are not discounted for dents--they fix them, they don't throw them out or return them] Cars are not perishable are they. Last but not least. Supermarkets as well as other stores have 1 BIG problem that they have to make up money for...SHOPLIFTING...how many cars do they shoplift from your dealership??????? If they do steal a car, other than chopping for parts, sending to some foreign country what do they do with it??? I didn't touch on the monthly quotas and the rebates dealers get and the year end rebates they get to sell the leftovers. And what about the EXTRA charges some try to take on like DEALER PROFIT or other BOGUS charges of various names. Please don't take this personally but you are a little naive about business. If "salesman" knew how much dealerships REALLY made they would demand more money. Salesman is in quotes because the majority of dealerships DO NOT ALLOW them to make a deal. "Salesman" MUST go to the manager to reduce the price and that does not translate into a salesman. I patiently await your response. I hope that others get into this dialog.

Replying to: joe131 (Jan 29, 2007 11:22 am) I have quoted from several different dealers and this dealer has much lower price ($14986) than any others. It is also about $1000 lower lower than invoice ($500 lower than invoice considering rebate). I know that a salesman from that dealer posting here some time, so I just want to make sure whether they accept the $500 rebates from listing price. I know a lot of you are helpful but I have already done some homework and need a little bit more suggestion if possible, not just posting a question without any preparation work.

Replying to: xplor (Jan 29, 2007 2:16 pm) Get the quote in writing. BE SURE that the model, vin#, color etc. is the car you want and on the quote... Remember: IF IT'S NOT IN WRITING........IT AIN'T...... They're CARSTEALERS, not Car Dealers. All the casinos in the world are more honest than the CARSTEALERS. It's sad that so many people get screwed when buying a car. Read the above 2 postings. Good Luck. |
