I was living in Jersey City when I bought my 05 GT hatchback (auto, sunroof). I got it actually at Hyundai of Manhattan. $13,300 plus ttl. I think it was a fluke. The guy who sold it to me was fired that same week. But they were quite easy to deal with in hindsight.

All-
Thanks for all great tips and guidance. I finally got my 06 Elantra last Saturday. I got it for 13100 drive out! This includes all NJ state taxes, registration, documentation fees, etc. (after 1000 rebate). I also got floor mats, mud guards, and 4 oil changes. I think I got a good deal!
Thanks again.

I think I've read almost every posts here and want to thank everyone for their great information.

Just got back from getting my '06 GLS Elantra with AT, mudguards, mats, and a couple other extras for an OTD price of $13,250. Trade-in numbers might have skewed this a little bit. Purchased it at Fairfax(Virginia) Hyundai.

I realize the '07s are on the horizon, but my old car('97 Explorer) wasn't going to make it another month without some repairs. I test drove a Nissan Sentra and didn't like that very much, it felt a little too cramped. Also looked at the Corolla, but the lowest I could get even a base CE with AT around here was $1,500 more than the Elantra. Add in power windows, locks, Side Airbags, etc... and it went WAY up from there.

Thanks again, and hope to be around here more often.

The fact that the 07s are on the horizon is actually a *good* reason to buy an 06. At the end of a model run, all the bugs are pretty much worked out. Enjoy the car!

you will enjoy the car. i have a 2005 GLS hatchback and it's excellent. the car is roomy enough that we've had nephews pile in the car. we're planning on keeping ours until the wheels fall off. it convinced my wife that when the day comes that we have little ones, it's actually roomy enough to be a family car.

It's more than roomy enough to be a family car until the little ones grow to almost 6 feet tall. I have two 6 foot sons, and if they have the ride in the back, it's a little cramped. Luckily, most of their friends are not so tall so I can still cart them around once in a while.
