Re: 02 Liberty - Advice Needed on Engine Replacement [sueb2] by earlclay2

My father owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty 4WD with about 70,000 miles on it, we do regular oil changes as well and the engine blew. This is under a 75,000 mile warranty but the dealership won't cover the engine because we can't prove that we have done the regular oil changes. The oil was sludgey and nasty black. I have read on another site for the cause of sludge and it noted that it could be from a blown head gasket or something to that effect. Any suggestions ?

earlclay2: Ask your service manager to call the zone rep and schedule a conference. If you have some history in buying DCX vehicles this will help as well.
I have seen this kind of issue before. The thing that comes to my mind is what ever you saved in $ can't be enough to pay for the engine repair, can it? Unless aperson loves to work on vehicles, it can be a mistake. When you do oil changes save your reciept for the oil and filter, and put the mileage on the slip. Save the papers in a folder and thenyou have your proof og keeping the vehicle up. Hope this works out for you.

Hi BirdDog,

Any updates on your 2002 Liberty AC problem?
I've been stumped with a similar problem with my 2002 Liberty, and our dealer is having a heck of a time fixing it.

Our AC is ice cold... when it works. While driving it will abruptly stop and start blowing hot air. At the dealer they to replicate the problem but if the car's parked it blows 38 with no problem. It seems like it only occurs when the car's on the road. Does this sound familiar to you?

Thanks,

Tom D

2006 Jeep Liberty - PCM by adrianj

My 2 month old Liberty has been in the shop for the past 7 days with a PCM problem. Crysler had decided to replace it however they are apparently in "back order" forcing them to source a replaement from across the country.

Just wondering if this lack of parts means it's a rare occurance, or is this a far more frequent problem ?

Cracked Windshield by clanoue

Wondering if anyone else has had the same problem I've been having. This is the second time I've had to replace the windshield on my 2003 Liberty Limited. Both cracks have started at the top from chips and have occurred on vacation so I didn't even get a chance to get the chip repaired. Are people finding this a common problem. I think the cause is not frame on the top of the windshield. Is there any fix for this?

Hi...I was checking on this problem since my 2003 Liberty is currently at the dealer getting a new window mechanism/regulator (forgot the part name) to fix my slipping window problem. When I dropped it off this morning I was told it is a common problem and it would cost about $300 to fix. I thought since it is so common that it would be nice if it was treated as a recall so I've emailed the customer service dept. at Jeep.com to get their feedback. The problem is in the left rear window but the guy at the dealer kind of chuckled and said, "Don't be surprised if the right one doesn't go too" making me feel really great about the issue altogether.

Front end wobble by jayrider
Sep 28, 2006 (7:35 pm)
Posted earlier on 03 Liberty with vague steering wobble at slower speeds. It just didn't feel solid but figured it might be the front end design. It was a subtle feeling that my wife never noticed and the dealership couldn't diagnose. Just had the second recall service on the ball joints and there was an immediate improvement in the way it handles. Much more solid. I'm very happy with this truck.

Symptoms of a problem??? by imapoboy2
Sep 30, 2006 (7:25 am)
I own a 2001 Jeep Liberty Sport, 2WD, 3.7ltr V-6. It has just over 65,000 miles. I've recently noticed a small amount of smoke (white/gray, not blue) and water coming from the exhaust pipe. It's about the same amount and color of smoke you would see during a cold start in the winter. Not a billowing amount. This smoke does, however, stay constant. I am also detecting a smell of gasoline. My service engine indicator has been on for about a week. The code it displays, I was told, is most likely a fuel cap problem. What is the most likely cause of these symptoms?
