I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 Crew Cab SLT with about 39K miles (rarely touches a surface other than pavement). Ever since the warranty ran out after 36 months, I've started having issues. I replaced a water pump and a part in the steering column under the dash (known issue that should have been recalled) at 30K miles (a total of about $700) and today an EBCM for the ABS for $1,100 at 39K miles (this seems to be common problem for GM full size SUVs, trucks, as well as other vehicles). I really enjoy driving it and it feels as sturdy as a rock. However, I just don't believe a modern day vehicle that costs as much as it did should have these issues with so few miles. My last truck was a 1989 Toyota that I drove for 11 years and the only non-routine maintenance issue was a radiator after 9 years and 100K miles. I really would love to trade it for a Toyota Tacoma, but at 14 mpg and $4/gallon gas, it's not worth very much. Though at this rate, I can't keep throwing good money after bad. Definitely the last GM that I will buy. |

Anybody still around here with any comments about their GM trucks? Anybody bought a new GM full sizer lately? Sure is pretty dead since they split these forums up and closed all the good threads........................ |

Hi everyone, I just bought my very first "new" truck yesterday. A lovely 2009 Silverado with a 5.3 litre engine. Seeing that this is my first new vehicle, I have a question in rergards to break-in periods and gasoline consumption. I've only driven 100km (60 miles) and the tank is down 1/4 from a full tank. Now I might sound a bit paranoid but is this normal or will this consumption get better as the engine slowly breaks-in? Can anyone help? |
