2000 What size are the brake caliper Torx bolts? by topsail33

I should have posed this question before I made 3 trips to the parts store, trying to find the right Torx socket.

2000 Silverado - front brake calipers: I've tried a T50 (too small) and a T-60 (too big). Is it a T-55? Where/who carries it?

Thanks!

1995 Silverado cutting out by mmudd

I have a 1995 Chevy Silverado 4x4. I have had at to 3 different mechanics. When on the highway and I try to excelerate to pass the truck falls on it's face (cuts out but don't die) then when it gets up to speed it regains power. This also happens at stop signs, idols real rough, but not all the time and it is usually warmed up before it does it. The last 2 mechanics changed the egr valve and thermostat and ran machines on it.

Topsail33, if you do any work on your truck yourself, I would buy the mechanic book on your truck. You can
pick this up at your locall autozone. It is worth the $15. I would think that you could buy a small kit with all those sockets there as well. I don't believe they would not be exspensive. David.

Good Morning

Yea, I agree with the fuel filters. I just went thru this with my 02 Silverado. The fuel pump finally gave out because I was too stupid to change the fuel filter. It will clog and you`re ok when you are calling for normal fuel flow. When you accelerate it requires increased volume and cannot push that much thru the filter. If I would have used my head I could have saved myself about $900 bucks (tow, etc.) Fuel filters are cheap and easy.

Well, it ended up being a T-55 sized Torx socket. I'm not a fan of Chiltons; I've had a few of them over the last 3 decades, and they can be fairly generic. Besides, brakes on Chevys are easy to do, I just don't have that much experience with Torx bolts. Wonder what was wrong with Hex ?

It's all back together and works great now.

Oil filter adapter by danno4

I have a 1995 Silverado ext cab, 5.7 liter 4x4. I was told that the oil filter adapter was leaking and needed to be replaced. I guess this adapter makes it easier to get the filter on and off. How hard is it to replace? The service station wanted about $150 to do it. I think that's a bit of a rip off.

That all depends whether it is the type that is connected to the oil pan or the type screwed onto the old oil filter location.
