This sounds like a good plan. One caution -- if you wait too long the vehicle you want may not be available. Especially if color matters to you.

Thanks! I feel better. Enjoy your NAV system. I am transistioning from 15 years of driving a V8 SUV. I keep looking down to check my gas gauge and I keep reaching "up" to shift gears on the steering column. I have called my car a "truck" all week and I'm tickled pink that I have a trunk that no on can see into.

Can you tell me if it was auto or stick shift? Also, does the $19500 include tax?

If so, what was your base price before tax?

Color isn't an issue with an '06 because cars will be added to inventory throughout the year. And if your dealer doesn't have the color you want, the dealer can trade with another local dealer. The last 2 cars I bought were traded with another dealer and it created no problem at all.......Richard

Did you get a good deal? How far above invoice was it? I don't have that data in front of me, but a local dealer was running TV ad's "selling" all 2005 Accords at dealer invoice.

Again "but did I get ripped off? The dealer really went out of their way to make it sound like this was the deal of the century. How much over invoice? If more than 500.00 above invoice, you got ripped. With all the data on Edmunds and MSN auto's all the data is out there. Invoice should be max price since it is the end of a model year. Did you do your homework?

From MSN Auto's

Friend just got an EX at 100.00 below invoice. They have "holdback" money, so don't let them whine re: losing money. Also Honda is throwing some $$''s at dealers to move out 2005's. Don't pay any more than invoice!

Base Price $20,699 $23,000
Selected Options $0 $0
Destination Charge $550 $550
Total $21,249 $23,550

Just got back from the dealership. I bought their last 2005 Accord. Here was my deal.

Accord 2door LX-SE Automatic Taffeta White
Cash Price: $18,550
Dealer Documentary Service Fee: $299
Sales Tax: $1178
License: $47
State Fees: $150
Waste Tire Fee: $5

Total Price: $20,229

No trade in.
My financing is 4.99% for 48 months

It seems that some people in other parts of the country are getting better deals, but this was the best I could do. I hope the detailed information is useful.

I'd be interested to know if people think this is a reasonable deal. An interesting thing was that the new 2006 Civics are selling for $2000 more than my Accord at the same dealership. Thanks for the input.

I think that is a great deal on a 2005 that you won't regret. Looks like they gave you invoice less the $700 "dealer money" less the 300 Doc fee that they in turn added back. I'll say that I could not get Autoway Honda in Clearwater, Florida to go below invoice on a 05' EX 4cyl last weekend. They also wanted a $499 Doc fee on top of that. That would make the car $500 over invoice so I passed. The Central and gulf coast Florida market seems to be a little high right now. Anybody have any luck getting a deal and not just lip service, then let me know. I am really thinking about doing the carsdirect thing on a 06' LX SE now.??

The invoice was around $24,700 (including) destination charge, so I was paying around $1300 below invoice.
I guess I got a pretty good deal for the area, the other offers I received $200 and $500 higher (out the door price).
