I can't understand how Edmunds came to the conclusion that the Accord has a high depreciation cost. Just to compare, I looked at the Acura TSX - Accord - total cash price 29,511. First year depreciation - 5662 which is less than 20% TSX - total cash price - 31,741. First year depreciation - 6594 - over 20% Depreciation cost is shown to be very low (the bar) for the TSX and near high for the Accord. How did Edmunds arrive at this valuation? Even the total depreciation cost as a % of the total price is lower for the Accord. The TCO numbers are completely misleading! |

Just wanted to first say thanks to everyone for their posts over the last month. I learned so much! I had been researching buying a new Accord EX V6 w/out Nav. for the last 6 weeks. I'm in Austin, TX, but got internet quotes from Temple, Waco, San Antonio, and Houston. Someone told me about Russell Smith Honda in Houston, and I'm glad they did. They gave me an internet quote of 23,619.00. I tried hard to get both Austin dealerships to at least match this, but they said they couldn't come close. I had NO Trade-In and told them I would be paying Cash. I even offered them 25,400. (Out The Door), but they said they would be losing way too much money. When I showed them the quote from Russell Smith, they said they were "Low-balling" me. They told me to get them to fax a Purchase Order (signed by the manager) with the VIN # on it. When I got home I called them, and they had no problem doing it! This was on May 30th. I drove to Houston the next day, and had not one problem. They gave me the car for exactly what the quote was. Here's how it broke down: Car Price: 23.619.00 Tax: 1,476.19 (6.25% in Texas) Inspection/Title 58.88 License Fee 72.30 Doc Fee 50.00 ---------------------------------------------- "Drive Out Price" $25,331.12 I got the Satin Silver, which comes with black leather! It's fabulous. It drives like a dream. I test drove the 4 cylinder as well, but liked the V6 MUCH better!! It had 2 miles on it when I drove it off the lot, when I got to Austin, it had 170, but well worth it, as I saved around 1,100 by buying in Houston! |

" Yes, what is at work here is Competition and volume. There are Honda dealerships at every street corner, competing to sell you an accord and try to make a dime off it. |

Why don't you go to one of these Honda dealers and ask what the FTD on the Accord is for this month and see if you get a straight answer and report back to this forum? In the meantime you may think for a second why would a dealer want to tell you their FTD if is not public information. Or why would they want to tell you what their TRUE cost on a car is. What benefit do they gain from divulging this kind of information? Also, try to go to places like Consumers Report and see what FTD they list for the Accord. How come such a large magazine/media don't know this information if, like you said there are "thousands of dealerships" out there itching to give such basic information away? Before calling somebody's post "nonsense" you should think about what you're saying. |

Now I don't feel as bad for your comment, as at least you didn't call me a fool. You should try to be a little more sensitive when posting, and express constructive opinions as opposed to criticizing other people's postings in an insulting way. You can disagree and still be polite about it. |
