I drove the Accord EX (auto, sedan) home from the dealership last night. I think I got a good deal on it. Paid $19,915 + TTL. Drive out = 21,400. Also got 3.9% for 60 months Typical sales guy, after I found the car he asked if we could go make the deal. I said we could go "talk about it". Next thing I know he puts the buy order in front of me for a $21,750 drive out. (The price he quoted me by email) When I said I hadn't agreed to pay that price he acted all offended and righteous. Spent about 5 minutes telling me that he is a man of his word and that the price he gave me was a good deal, and how their dealership is the best one in Houston (which is true, but still), etc. He finally finished with a "So, de we have a deal or not?" When I said no, he asked what I wanted from him. I told him I needed to drive out at $21,400. After a "How did you come up with that number?" and "Where do you think this money is coming from?", oh and a "How do I know you won't try and get more if I come back with that price?" he finally went and got it approved. His soapbox act really annoyed me and I was ready to leave but I figured if he would sell it for that price I could put up his 5 minute rant. Good luck to everyone else! I'm gonna go run some errands in the new car.

Replying to: lorryfan (May 27, 2005 1:32 pm) there 's probably no problem if the dealer tries to say they made a mistake and forgot to charge destination and a inventory storage charge and add $800-$1000 back into the price. why not just take a great deal and be happy and not try and chisel when clearly there is no need.

Just to share my experience. First, the quality of retail and service industry in south FL is among the worst in the country if you are not a tourist on vacation here. It is not a surprise that it also applies to car dealerships. I was looking to buy an EX V6 Coupe. I went to Brickell Honda. They gave your the most "traditional" car buying experience and pulled all the tricks in the book: (1) never showed you a breakdown of the price, (2) promised to beat all the other offers, (3) told you the sobbing story about how they worked for no profits, (4) kept calling you back to give you a special deal after you left the dealership because they could not meet your offer, (5) gave you the most ridiculously low trade-in value for your old car, (6) added another charge on top of the final OTD price!! The last one finally did it. It was a waste of time. I left, the second time, and went straight to another dealership and purchased the car that I wanted. However, I guessed I was a little tired. After I came home, with me new Accord, I found that the second dealership charged me $66 more than what we agreed upon. Could be an honest mistake? That's about $1 and 1 cent more per month for my payment. Well, close enough. Lesson learned: Always ask the dealer to itemize all the fees and charges -- Sell price of the car (including the destination charge), tax, registration (new tag or transfer), "dealer fee" (it is about $500 in Florida). Dealers play with every number that they have. This is just before the financing game.

Picked up a Graphite Pearl 2005 EX-L Coupe with MT from Moorehead Honda in Newburgh NY today. Got it for $21500 I live in NNJ so I have to pay taxes on difference of my trade in when I register the car ($500) plus whatever the registration fees will be. Some surprises were the leather shift knob, the cargo net and chrome exhaust tip. I put the wheel locks on that came with my 2001. Very happy with the car and the sales service at Moorehead. |

| I have gone to several dealerships in the Dallas,TX area. The lowest price I have gotten so far is 23000 OTD from Vandergriff Honda, for an Accord EX-L 4CYL Sedan. Is this a good price? I have also gone to bankston honda in lewisville, and they were offering me the same car for around 20,913, before TTL, and all the other stuff. I also went to Rusty Wallis in Garland, and they offered me the EXL 4cyl Sedan, for 23,500, OTD. What do you guys think of these prices, can I do better? I have heard from friends that they have gotten a Honda Accord EX-L V6 for 23000 OTD, is that possible? What kinds of prices did you guys pay in the DFW area? | |
