You could have saved a lot of time by just buying the old printed price guides. Edmund's used to sell them as did a company called "Pace", if I remember correctly. Available at about any drug store or book store. For the new cars it showed MSRP and invoice along with option invoice and MSRP prices. For used cars they showed trade in and retail values.

I know these go back way before I purchased my first new car in 1979 and I have been using these ever since and only stopped buying them when Edmund's, KBB, and others starting giving the info away for "Free" online. Finding dealer incentives was a lot harder back then, though.

At one time I had a collection of Pace price guides going back several years in my office. I used to help friends and family find good prices and make deals using them, so I would buy new issues even if I was not in the market myself.

Having this info instantly available online is heaven now, and as Kirstie said does help the dealers somewhat. I hear folks say "I will walk in on the last day of the month and offer them $25k out the door for that car" when that is a totally unrealistic number given incentives, hold back, and dealer invoice. It really helps pre-burst the trade in bubble by looking up values online as well.

On an Accord note, the $600 incentive became $750 and is now $900 (all are up-to numbers). I wonder if Honda has FINALLY sold enough Accords to stop the incentives? The promo lease runs through July 7 now, so "odds are" they will have some dealer money for June too....

Hey guys, first post to the forum. I've been shopping dealers all week and drove off last nite w/ an 05 EX-V6 w/ XM - silver/black leather.
I got tint, mudguards, rear wing spoiler out the door car price of 23752 doc of 299 and w/ all ttl i drove off the lot paying 26460 w/ 3K down walked w/ exacltly a 430.00 month payment. I set all of this up through the web using edmonds and requested in email form the best price each dealer would give me and then took that around to all the others in my area before deciding on the dealer and the best price. Is $23,752 w. tint/mud guards/spoiler a good buy on the car?

This website kicks butt!!!

You'll never be happy unless you test drive both the V6 and the 4 cyl.

I'd bet that many purchasers of V6 Accords never bothered to test-drive a 4 because they remembered the noisy, slow buzz boxes of the 1970s and early '80s and ignored all 4 cylinder cars.

Well, the Accord 4 is smoother than some other manufacturers' V6s and accelerates as well as some V6s, too. The Accord V6 is a great engine, but unnecessary IMO. Another advantage of the 4 is that it uses a timing chain instead of a belt that requires changing. The 4 is lighter in the front and might handle slightly better, too. The money you save will buy you a new iMac .

If you aren't hauling a trailer or loading the car full of heavy passengers and luggage all the time, the 4 is MORE than adequate. Try it and see.

With respect to gas mileage, there isn't much difference--only 2 or 3 MPG in most cases. My '03 EX-L A/T sedan gets 22.6 in the city, 33.2 on the highway, and average mileage for me has been 24 to 27 MPG in the San Francisco area............Richard

Exactly what was the deal you got? I have calls into several dealers trying to track down the car now. I did try carsdirect but they weren't offering enough on my trade (2001 Accord Coupe EX V6).

[UnQUOTE]

Yeah, I remember those price guides, but my wife managed the household funds (why we can purchased vehicles using cash) and visitng the library was no trouble. The two library's we visited (Mountain View and Sunnyvale, CA) each had a complete Auto REFERENCE section, so everything was right their. Matter-a-fact, ... I remember reading Edmunds Car Buying Guide Magazines also!!!

By the way, ... THANKS for ALL YOUR POSTS Dennis including updating the Accord incentives!

When I frist started reading this "Honda Accord: Prices Paid & Buying Experience" section (Aug. 29th), it was evident that I should go back and REAR ALL YOUR POSTS!!!

Your posts have been the most INFORMATIVE Guide in this Forum and it changed my mind that $600 under MFG Invoice (quoted a week before by our Credit Union Car Buying rep - she helped us get our 2004 Pilot w/NAV $1,010 under MSRP last Aug/Nov 2004) was about the best we can save!!!

Thanks!

My wife is driving a new Accord thanks for the folks (like car_man) that posted the incentives as well - those NEVER made it to the Edmund's incentive page, which is what I normally depend on. With the dealer names I found in this forum plus the incentive I knew about ($600 in March) plus the cheap lease info (from the Honda page and the lease forum here) I was able to negotiate a really cheap price on the car and a REALLY cheap lease deal. My wife is happy, ergo I am happy

Accord EX-L in Tampa Bay by charms

I'm new to this forum and have a couple of questions. My husband and I are wanting to purchase a Redondo Red Accord EX-L in Tampa Bay. I have been getting quotes from dealers around the area and am wondering if the prices are good. My lowest quote is $22251, but another dealer will beat my lowest offer by $200. Is this a good price? Also, if it isn't, how is the best way to bargin via email with the internet managers for a better price? Also, I was quoted by one dealer for 6% sales tax, $222 for tags, and $50 for title(?) Does this sound right? My husband actually took that info from the Carsdirect.com guy so I hope I got the right numbers from him.

Anyone purchase recently from this area or receive quotes different from mine? Is this a good quote, or should I be pushing for a lower price?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I love coming to Edmunds for all the info it has. It was very helpful in negotiating our deal for our 2002 Trailblazer EXT when we bought that, so I am hoping for a better experience/deal with this.

Thank you in advance,
Christine

Are you looking at the I4 with auto transmission? $22,251for the car, destination, and dealer fees would be a good price (invoice is around $22,700). Then you would add sales taxes, tags, and title.

Be sure when getting quotes to get a price for the car, destination, and dealer/doc fees - everything else should be the same (taxes/tags/title).

You might can find a lower price, the dealer IS making a profit at this price - but I would not think it would be a LOT lower. If the other dealer beats it by $200 including all fees then so much better

Christine,
After reading your post I thought I would respond and hopefully help out a bit.
I live Tampa and have much experience with two Honda Dealers here in this area.
I am not sure where in Tampa you live but I can tell you that the two dealers you should be working with as far as getting the best price is the Honda dealer in Brandon (Brandon Honda) and the one on Florida avenue (Hondaland).
As far as the price of the car I can tell you that you should be able to get that Accord EX-L for at least $500 dollars below invoice or better with little trouble.
I am going to assume you are looking for the Sedan with automatic and those should be in great supply.
As far as the fees goes they do seem about right, 6% sales tax plus $50 Hillsbourgh tax (if you live in that county), tags are about $210 assuming you are getting new tags, if you are transferring tags it should only be about $68 dollars.
You also pay $5.00 battery fee, $1.50 tire waste fee, and last but not least $2.00 lemon law fee. If you would like to know the name of a good point of contact please let me know and I can supply it.
I do not work for these dealerships, nor do I get anything out of it except trying to help out a fellow consumer.
This forum is outstanding and can help out allot in the process of buying a car.
If I don't hear from you good luck in your car buying experience!!!!!
