unwanted items and doc fees by bobst

I am not offering to pay for any options, doc fees, warranty, or anything. I plan to offer invoice + transportation + dealer profit. Then I will add on sales tax + $50 for tag/title.

Exactly how much should I add, or subtract, for the 'dealer profit'?

Subtract holdback (3% of MSRP) from your formula. Use $0 for "dealer profit". That should be the maximum.

My quotes for an Accord Coupe EX-v6 are $100 to $250 below invoice. Add tax, title, reg., but no other fees applied.

why would you of all people be asking for car buying advise? Make your unacceptable offer, walk out, and head to the next store like you always do!

If you start talking about holdback like one poster suggested, you may get a very cold response. Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT bottom line profit.

Good Luck!

Just wondering what you guys think is a good price for a 2004 DX 5spd. I was quoted $13,999 at the dealer in Southern California. Thanks!

No, I am not asking for any "car buying advice". I just need a little help arriving at a price to offer.

Skipper I should offer $100 to $250 below invoice.

3c3 suggests I offer about $600 below invoice.

These prices seem very low because in the past I have offered about $100 to $300 over invoice.

The Edminds TMV is about $900 over invoice.

No, I would never mention the word 'holdback' when buying a car. As you know, I just make an offer and wait to see if it is accepted.

The carsdirect.com price for Accord 2.4 LX/EX in my area is $400 below invoice. I think $600 below invoice is already too high.

MSRP Price: $27,215
Invoice Price: $24,538
Price Paid: $23,993

Only additional charges were Tax, Tags and Doc Fees. No games played and a very quick process. Also took advantage of the 1.9% financing.

Thanks to everyone's input as it has been very helpful. I am sure there were a few dollars left on the table, but based upon other postings, I feel this was reasonable.

In April of '04 I bought a 2004 EX V-6 sedan with leather and all the fixings (minus navigation. Got it in my preferred color of white as well. Found it over the internet, did all my communication via phone and e-mail. Wilde Honda in Waukesha, WI simply quoted me one price, which at the time included a $400 dealer incentive, plus a "internet discount".

Prices are as follows:

M.S.R.P. $26,890
Invoice: $24,244
Edmunds local selling price: $24,923
Dealer's discount: $3,768
Doc fee: $89
Final price with a full tank of gas, and absolutely no haggling was $23,211

To save you doing the math, that's $3,768 under MSRP, $1,122 under invoice, and $1,801 under average sales price for my area. (I'm a few hundred miles from Waukesha)

I walked in and met the saleman for the first time the day I got the car, did a test drive, spent a half hour filling out papers, refused all add-on services, was handed the keys and drove off.
12,000 miles and 7 months later, I'm still very happy!
And the kicker is that I could have saved another hundred if I had bought the coupe!
