| Back in January of 2004, I got a 2004 Accord EX V6 with navigation for $27,374 OTD, or $25,251 before taxes, tags, and other fees at College Park Honda. Haggle some more. | |

I placed a deposit on a 2005 Honda Accord LX V6 Sedan, and continued to research prices. Before I took delivery, I learned about the safety recall concerning the driver's airbag, which the salesperson HAD NOT communicated to me. I was advised that the vehicles affected are ALL 2004 Accord L4 4-door vehicles, as well as certain 2005 Accord L4 4-door vehicles. In order to complete the sale, the dealership dropped its price further to compete with the Cars Direct price. As I would not complete the purchase unless I qualified for the 1.9% APR financing, the contract was not binding until I signed the finance agreement. Don't be too quick to sign. It's not over until...

By surveying area Honda dealers via E-mail, I was quickly able to find which dealer had the lowest internet prices. CarsDirect later admitted to me over the phone that they'd be getting the car from that same dealer, at that same price, and then tacking on a $500 markup to cover their end. In my case, $500 would have been a lot to pay for somebody else to send a dozen e-mails on my behalf. To their credit, the guy on the phone was honest about it. Ultimately, I got my 2005 Accord for $168 below dealer invoice and destination together(plus tax and tag). Again, CarsDirect would have been $500 higher than that.
