One dealership in the New York City area gave me this quote on a brand new '05 Accord, EX with leather, 4 dr, 4 cyl, automatic, desert mist metallic color, no other options, no extended warranty. I would be buying, not leasing (and paying in full at time of purchase). Price is $400 invoice which comes out to $23,096 (no freight charge). Tax is: $1992.03 DMV fees are: $45 Doc fee, $10 Inspection, $12.50 tire tax, and about $25 to register with plates from my old car. Grand Total: ~ $25, 155.53 Can anyone please help me out with their opinion on this offer, should I take it, or is there better?

If the dealer is well regarded and convenient, you should probably take that deal if it seems that the dealer really won't go lower. It's a fair price for a great car and if it's the model and color that you want, why split hairs for what will likely be a very small dollar amount?.....Richard |

Replying to: lenka12 (Oct 01, 2004 8:26 am) But I think that if you know exactly what you want, have a realistic idea of a good price to pay and are willing to go someplace else if they won't meet your price, then start walking out the door with no intention of coming back when they say they can't go that low, you'll find that they'll call you back with a lower price. If three dealers in a row let you go, you'll know the price you want is probably a bit too low. I wonder about the effect of color on price. Silver and beige are the two most popular colors, I was told, so there may be less incentive to reduce prices on those, as there are lots of folks willing to buy them. Green, blue and red are less in demand (somewhere around 5 to 7% of all Accords sold, I heard -- anyone know if that's true?), so a dealer may be more willing to cut a price on one of those. Not sure where the grey and black fit in. |

I live in Queens, so the nearest Honda dealers to me are Paragon in Woodside, and the place in Jamaica. There are also places on Long Island such as PS Honda in Manhasset. Are the '05 Accords actually on the lots?, I ask because I havent seen any '05's advertised in the paper yet. As for color, Its been difficult for me to choose. I think its best to pick the one that you feel you'd like the most in the long run (as opposed to a color that you might initially find appealing, but will later grow tired of). I think the dilemna is: you have to choose not just the exterior color, but also which interior color you like- for example, the black leather looks very nice in the Accord brochure, but its only available if you buy the silver exterior. Silver is alright, but I think in the long run, beige (desert mist, is the most pleasant choice)- but if you choose that, you then must accept the ivory color interior. I was considering Black as my other choice, which also comes in only ivory interior. Well...., I'll see how things go. Ive never owned a brand new car, so I dont have any experience dealing with dealerships, and I just find it hard to trust them, when the impression seems to be that they are out to squeeze every last dollar from you. I have an '87 Accord DX that Ive been driving for the past 9 years, and I am very fond of the car. Quite honestly, I think the 3rd gen 86-89 Accords look pretty cool with the flip-up headlights, and they certainly were built to last (Mine has 210k miles). When I see the new Accords, I dunno.....- soemtimes I think they look good, and other times that bubble shape turns me off. The only drawback to my '87 Accord is that since its a DX, it has a carburetor, and last winter, the carb gave me some problems- going into fast idle mode, stalling out etc...- and Ive learned that most car mechanics nowadays just dont want to deal with trying to fix carburetor issues- apparently adjusting a Honda carburetor and the float valve is like doing delicate brain surgery. I'll see how my '87 behaves when the weather gets colder, if it holds up ok, I suppose I can just keep it for a while longer - Ive noticed there are alot less of them seen out on the road now- and in a way I like it - not to have the same car that everyone else drives- like those '98-'02 Accords which are eyeseores. My only reason for getting the EX is the desire for leather seats. I was wondering- what are the drawbacks to leather seats? Is it worth spending the extra $on, compared to an LX? |

I was thinking of getting the 2004 version but I would definitely spring for the 2005 at that price. Thanks for your help. |

I just signed for the following in Northern VA: Accord EX V6 w/NAV=$24,991.85 Destination=$490.00 Processing fee=$289.00 Taxes=$824.67 Tags=$39.50 TOTAL=$26,635.02 Look like you beat me by a bit as there is a $2000 retail difference on the Nav vs. non-Nav. I shopped big time to get this but I guess the Navs are getting harder to get as there was about a 10:1 ratio of non-Navs to Navs on the lot. Congrats Hi Boxlaxman, You got a great deal. It is cheap. BTW, is it a 2005 EX V6? |

I am interested in an 05 Coupe EX V6 with the navigation system. I know both models msrp for the same price but does anyone know if dealers are charging more for the 6 speed manual trans. cars since Honda doesn't produce many of them? I have one dealer down to $26825 on an auto trans. car with the nav. |
