Thanks for the compliment. We were typing at the same time!
The worst phone calls would come from people demanding a hard price.
They would get mad sometimes and hang up.
I would tell them.." We have been the largest volume Honda dealer in nine states for the past 30 years...we didn't get that way by charging too much for the cars we sell...bring me whatever numbers you may have and I'll see how much money I can save you"
I have been in all levels of retail management and my phone skills were a huge factor in my success. I knew that one wrong word could kill a possible sale.
I had to sell myself and our store quickly. " We are a family owned, friendly place to do business with...the bulk of my sales are to repeat and referral customers"
If they had a trade in.." Our used car department routinely pays the most for nice trades"
It was fun until the mooches multlipied. They finally got to me.

When you say "1075 below invoice should be the target price" is that includes the destination fee?

iselhondas, Your recent posts tell me that you were the older type of salespeople that could not adapt to the newer way of selling cars. Yes, its a reality now that people shop and compare via the internet armed with information that would make old timer salespeople tremble. It's no longer 1998. Now, due to easily available public information, salespeople can no longer throw as much bull at the customers as they did before. Information has made the playing field more level.
It's sad when people can't adapt to change. You probably got out just in time!

Folks, what's reasonable to pay for this car in the Chicagoland area?
I'm really frustrated with the dealers here. No one wants to give a straight answer via the phone or e-mail. Everyone wants you to come in..just come on in...come on in like there's no tomorrow.
I can go in to the closest few, but don't know what I should be paying for this car. Reading this thread it seems like there's a lot of ambiguity on the target price.
Will appreciate help from the gurus here.

you should go into those dealerships and ask them for a fair price.
i'm sure they will help you get it. pay what you think is fair. tell the salesman you are new at this to help you.. they will.

If you can negotiate, call and speak to the sales desk manager directly. Not salesman. 21,5 is invoice including destination. Work off that. 20 grand is a good price for an LX.

Brian, which dealer did you purchase your car? I contacted price in de and they were the most expensive quote I received to this date?! Also I called Paul Miller and they told me that Mike the internet manager no longer works there. So I asked for an internet quote and it was 21,106, no bargain by any means and not too far off from others. And that was today, March 29th,

Nobody EVER made me "tremble". Please know that.
I didn't mind well educated shoppers. It was the grinders that wore me down.
As people like me leave, you may not like what remains.
Stores will figure out ways to be profitable. You may not like doc. fees or added accessories but the stores WILL make a (gasp) profit one way or another.
Customers throw a lot of "bull" too. Believe me on this!
