I called Honda financing,as per the Rep, they can tell you if you are approved or not, but only dealer can tell you the actual rate.
Basically, they have kept main cards in dealer's hands. (Now I understand that if dealer is not making good profit through purchase price, the last chance for them is through financing)
I think, the best idea is to have sales guy write a note on the agreement ' customer can break the deal if he is not happy with APR'
Its great that sales guy let you write this kind of a note on an agreement.
but are you sure that they wont give you APR unless you sign the agreement?
Did they make you pay any finance fees to compensate for their loss from 1.99 APR they gave you? or APR covers all finance fees?
I would appreciate your reply

I am in a similar position, I'll wait for a better deal or newly designed 2013 model.
18500 OTD for LXP is an excellent deal. I wish I could get that. Though Honda incentives and rebates greatly differs from one region to another. Good luck

The price I paid for my Accord SE including destination fee, was actually $19,790.
+ 7% tax
+$299. DMV Fees
+$269. Documentation Fees
Prices may have dropped even more now, but I wanted to make sure I got the 0.9% financing, so I had to make my purchase before 5/31/12.

i think that interest rates are pretty standard. the individual dealerships don't mess with as all is financed through honda financial.
also, i know you are in wisconsin, but get a quote from criswell honda in maryland. they were almost $2000 cheaper for me than i could get anywhere in the midwest (i'm in michigan). you can fly into baltimore or DC and get to the dealership pretty easily.
I drove all the way home on 1 tank of gas (averaged 37mpg)
so for me i spent about $225 (includes food) and a whole day to buy a car from them. definately worth it since i saved $2000
BTW - i got the accord se for about 19,600 which is with the destination charge (i think before was 18,800)

raj,
landofand is right, the apr was standard and it was Honda's current offer at the time - I didn't have to sign first and did not have to negotiate the APR. Good luck.
