Just received an online quote from Bill Page Honda in Falls Church, VA of $22,549 for and 09 Accord EX-L w/o Nav. I have search approximately 10 dealers in the DC Area and this seems to be the best I can find. Any thoughts???

Replying to: mcfire81 (Mar 11, 2009 9:39 am) That's not a bad price IMO, but it sorta depends on what it includes and doesn't include. Can you provide any more details? Is $22,549 the base price for the car or is that the price OTD (with tax, tags, freight, etc)? Online quotes are fine, but i believe you get your best numbers by talking to a real person who can tell how serious you are about buying. Try calling and asking to speak to an Internet Salesperson. That's how (a couple months ago) I got my base price of $21,800 (about $23,900 OTD including side molding) on the same car (sedan) at Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge VA, which is just a few miles South of the Beltway. They were way lower than Bill Page at the time.

Replying to: pgm17 (Mar 11, 2009 5:12 pm) - $23k including freight is OK, but not great. Including freight mine was $22,470 ($23.9 OTD but sales tax is only 3%) - When I was looking in December, none of the dealers around here (DC) were charging anything for their "appearance package". Mine included splash guards, door edge guards, wheel locks, pin stripe. I bought the trunk liner online for about $80. - I guess this varies from region to region, but a $600 Dealer Fee?! I wouldn't mind that high fee if the base price of the car was super low, but together with a good-not-great car price, $600 seems high. They should call it a Dealer Boat Payment Fee. Again, there may be valid reasons why this would vary from region to region (like maybe So. Fla. is not experienceing the same car-buying drought that the rest of the country is, so the dealers do not feel like they need to price aggressively), but from what I've seen on this forum since December, my guess is that you can get that car about $1000 off that OTD price. Call around to various dealers and let them know what your buying timeline is, let them know that you're reading the car forums online and seeing much lower prices from all over the country, and let them know that whoever gives you the best bottom line price by a certain date will get your business. And don't get fixated on negotiating all the fees while you're ignoring the big number. For example, if they offer to waive the $600 Dealer Fee but leave the base price the same, that's just a 2% discount off the initial offer. Peanuts. FWIW, I might try offering for $22k for the car, and no charge for the appearance package. I think you should be able to end up about $1000 lower than where you are now. Also keep in mind that the end of the month is a better time to buy than now, and the end of March is also the end of the quarter, and some sales bonuses may be tied to monthly AND quarterly numbers. So you want to find the salesperson who is within reach of his or her monthly/quarterly target, so they don't care how much they sell that one car for as long as it guarantees that they make that bonus. |
