Replying to: rayjl (Aug 06, 2008 3:45 pm) Garden State Honda in Clifton NJ on route 3 west is best place in tri state area for getting great deals. Just goto other dealers, get your best price then go. If not they will rip you off there |

| I am trying to help a colleague find a brand-new 2007 Accord V6. He and his wife buy cars infrequently and decided they like the looks and slightly-smaller size of the '07. Short of checking dealers' on-line inventories and calling around, are there any shortcuts on the Web? THANKS! | |

I'm looking to buy either the EX or EX-L AT sedan Accord and got the price from the dealship. I was told that the EX will be about $22,000, while the EX-L will be about $23,000, including all the fees except tax. The only problem with the EX-L is that it doesn't come in my first choice color black and the EX does. Is this a decent deal? I guess I should mention that we're in Hawaii since it might affect the price a bit. Thank you. Actually, not sure if it includes all the other fees or not. |

Hello everyone -- great blog. My wife and I are ready to purchase a Honda EX-L (4 cyl). We're coming back to the US after being overseas for 3 years and want to buy a car over the Labor Day Holiday (Sep1-2). We don't have a lot of time, so want to negotiate a deal via the internet prior and just walk in, test drive, and sign the papers. We're hoping to negotiate a decent deal (21-22k prior to any other fees/add-ons) since the 2009s should be arriving. Any suggestions on good dealers in Northern VA/MD/DC area? We previously bought a car from Sheehy Honda in Alexandria, but did not get great followup (failed to provide stuff they promised....not big stuff, but enough to make us want to look for another place to purchase our next vehicle). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. |

Hey guys, I am sorry to disappoint you, but I didn’t buy the car. The reason, my trade in was worthless for the dealer. At first I was going to sell it on my own, but the transaction felt through. The bottom line the dealer that offered me the most was $1000. So I know I can sell the car on the street for 2k. Had I taken the 1k, it would have defeated the purpose of such great quotes I got. To be clear, the quotes I got were going to be honored. The dealers, except for route 22 Honda were told that there was not going to be any trade in. So, they prices will be honored if I still go today, but again, it will probably make sense for me to wait for another time, or until I sell my car on my own. I am copying and pasting all the quotes I got. I believe that any of the best 3-4 dealers/quotes I got were able to match or beat each other. Keep in mind that most dealers only had about 10 in stock or so on Saturday morning, so they may not even have the colors you may be looking for. I had said before that the best price in the tri-state area were the one offered to me and is true, but only for about $70-80. So you can always get a good price at any time during the year. I think I could have taking the hit on the trade, if that was not the case. The only reason I was going to buy it now was because of the APR. But again, if I wait until the end of the year sale, or whenever I sell my car, I would be able to put half of the price as a down payment, and then I can careless about the “Special APR.” My advice, always sale the car on your own, so will lose the least, if anything. Be serious about buying the car, so they don’t play around with you. Let them know that at the very end the economy is on your side. more advises will be posted tomorrow, here are the prices for the LX and LX-P's Accord LX Destination? I've been looking at the 2008 Accord Coupe since early July 08 when I decided I was serious about getting a new car, and the other night I finally took the plunge. It must be noted that I am a first-time buyer, so having the Edmunds website and forums available was a great help, so I'd like to thank all that have contributed. Now to my buying experience... I've had a 94 Toyota Pickup for over 14 years (which has been great, BTW), and so I finally decided to treat myself to something a little sportier. My choice of cars ranged far and wide, from the Honda Accord Coupe, Audi A5/S5, Audi TT, Infiniti G35/G37, Lexus IS250/IS350, Nissan 350Z, and Nissan Altima Coupe. After much research and debate, I narrowed it down to the Accord Coupe and the A5. Yeah, I know, two totally different price points, but my choices nonetheless. I felt going from a pickup to an A5 was just too much of a jump for me, so I decided on the Accord Coupe. Being that I wanted one with all the bells and whistles, I ultimately decided on the EX-L V6 w/ Nav and several accessories, but I'll get to that later. Following the advice of some people here, I submitted requests for quotes to several different Honda dealers here in Southern California over the Internet and got many responses back. One came lowest - Option Name [MSRP w/o Installation] ===================================== - Back-up Sensors [$509] - Cargo Net [$69] - First Aid Kit [$30] - Interior Illumination [$111] - Moonroof Visor [$128] - Remote Engine Starter [$509] - Splash Guards [$101] Total: $1,457 In my reply back to PHCM, I asked them how much they would charge for my requested accessories, and they came back with: - Option Name [PHCM Price w/ Installation] ===================================== - Back-up Sensors [$635] - Cargo Net [$116.50] - First Aid Kit [Not Given] - Interior Illumination [Not Given] - Moonroof Visor [$175.50] - Remote Engine Starter [$936] - Splash Guards [$196] Total: $2,059 (and this price doesn't included two missing options) To say the least, I was blown away with how much they marked up the pricing with labor. So I decided to see if I can just buy the accessories alone and try to install them myself. I searched the Internet for, and found, the installation instructions for all of the accessories I wanted, but after reading through the instructions, I realized that it was more trouble than I was willing to go though. So, first things first, I had to search for where I could buy the accessories the cheapest. There are several different sites that sell genuine Honda accessories and parts (including Ebay), but by luck, I stumbled upon the Honda eStore (http://estore.honda.com) that showed a list of local dealers' shops selling the accessories and listing how much each one sells them for. So I went through the pricing for each accessory that I wanted added to my purchase from all the local dealers and compiled a list in a spreadsheet, and the cheapest that I found were: - Option Name [Price w/ Installation | Store] ===================================== - Back-up Sensors [$569.20 | Store A] - Cargo Net [$87.75 | Store B] - First Aid Kit [$21.60 | Store A] - Interior Illumination [$179 | Store A] - Moonroof Visor [$120.90 | Store A] - Remote Engine Starter [$543 | Store A] - Splash Guards [$116 | Store C] Total: $1,637.45 With this compiled list of accessory prices, I was set to go to PHCM and make a deal. But before I headed out to PHCM, I noticed that Store A was not part of my initial list of dealers that I contacted for quotes. Since they had the cheapest prices on most accessories, I decided to call Store A's Internet Sales and see if they would be willing to beat the $27,950 price quote. They said they would beat it by $100 as long as I brought in a printing of the quote from the other dealer. I said "Okay! I'll see you tonight!", not really sure if I would really make it out. So during the day I first went to PHCM and met up with the Internet Sales person there. I told him I would be willing to buy if they were willing to give me the accessories that I wanted for the cheapest prices I had found from other dealers. He said he couldn't do that because he couldn't change the prices of what their shops sold the accessories for installed. The guy wasn't trying very hard to make the sale by trying to work with me. So knowing that I had a Plan B, I just walked out. So 30 minutes before closing, I made it to Store A and tried to meet with Internet Sales there, but they had left already, so I met with a regular sales guy. He seemed cool, so I told him I was ready to buy tonight and updated him on the conversation I had with the Internet Sales guy. They were willing to do it, but he wanted me to see the vehicle and test drive it, which I was fine with, since I haven't been there before. I saw the car and saw the sticker price on it: MSRP: $31,180 Dealer Added Equipment and Services Cilajet: $699 Wheel Locks: $119 Splash Guards: $240 Cargo Tray: $240 Total: $32,478 I told them I am willing to take the car, but I didn't want any of the Dealer Added Equipment and Services already on the car, except for the Splash Guards. They said we can deal with it later after they find out if I qualified for the financing that I wanted. Let's just say it didn't go too smoothly, so I had to come back the next day with a lot of paperwork to try to close out the deal. So I came back the next day, and to finally wrap up this long-winded post, this is the deal that I got: $27,950.00 (car w/ destination) + $1,637.45 (all the accessories I wanted) + $0.00 (all the Dealer Added Equipment and Services) ========================================================= $29,587.45 + 55.00 (doc fee) + 2,445.50 (tax + 275.75 (ttl) So that was my first experience in buying a car, and I am quite happy with the purchase. I'm just curious what you guys think of how I made out. Oh, and Store A was Spirit Honda in El Monte!
